I have a HFGH that cannot take the wind. I am tired of repairing it after winds. I want to build a greenhouse with a rigid plexiglass or polycarbonate. I don't want a flexible surface.. Suggestions welcome. Thanks
Need plans for rigid greenhouse.
I don't have a HFGH (I have a Rion [1]), but I've followed several threads about design flaws in the HFGH. There are some modifications you should make, in order to make the structure more stable. http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=2878557 contains links to the mods with images. There are several threads here, about this issue. Rather than starting over, it may be worthwhile looking into fixing what you have.
[1]. There are known issues with the Rion doors warping, although mine haven't experienced any warpage. The doors of my GH face SSW, and are in full sun from around 10am until sundown, with no shade unless there are clouds.

I have already made those modifications and more. The greenhouse has been reinforced with pipe and is mounted to 2x6 bolted to asphalt. All panels were silicones 10 clips and screwed down in 9 places with self tapping sheet metal screws with flat washers the size of quarters. I think I have done all that can be done to make this one work. I live on water and the winds are just too strong for a flexible covering. Any other ideas are welcome.
What size are you looking for? Are you looking for a "kit", or would plans do, and the rest is up to you? Do you have a price range? Rigid panel greenhouses cost considerably more than a HF -or similar type- GH..
I am looking more for a plan to see what price will be involved. I know it will be considerably more. I don't think any aluminum kit would survive here. I might even consider using my panels if I could find a way to anchor them successfully to a better structure.
thanks I appreciate your suggestions.
Maybe this will help? http://www.hobby-greenhouse.com/plans.htm

Hey Riverland, I bought an aluminum framed/polycarbonate clad greenhouse from Charlies 6 years ago, and that thing has withstood winds of 70+ mph without a wimper. It's supposed to be able to withstand winds to 130 mph, but I don't want to test their claims... My main fear was the aluminum framing---Iive on a brackish tributary, and I've never seen corrosion like it is here. Things start rusting/pitting immediately after exposure, even under the house and relatively protected! But the greenhouse is holding it's own. Can't find any signs of pitting, or any degradation whatsoever on the frame. It's powder coated resin treated, but I always thought that was marketing hype, so never paid it much mind. Going into my 7th year with this thing, and I'm tickled pink! But a word of caution: the powder coated aluminum and polycarbonate housing isn't a match for the back end of your pick-up truck. DON'T back into your greenhouse, like I did! The repairs are pure hell!
