Eagle Sunday

New Matamoras, OH(Zone 6a)

On the way down to New London for breakfast at the the local slophouse, I saw this one standing on a deer carcus so I thought what the heck, I'll grab a couple shots from inside the car..... It's not uncommon this time of year to see eagles along side the road or in fields feeding on road kill when the lakes, ponds and rivers are frozen over making it hard for them to fish... I cropped out most of the deer.... Not sure if anyone wanted to see that.....

Cool! We have a couple nesting at the lake nearby our house. We have not seen them yet though. Just been here about 6 weeks.

Excellent, Dave!! I wasn't nearly as nice as you - I didn't crop out the poor duck that "my" eagles were dining on!!

Murmur;,,

I saw that..... You probably would of had to crop out the whole back half of the eagle on that one!!...LOL

Seems like the eagles are every where, over here today..... We have three pair already sitting on eggs, including the nest down the road from me.....

Exceptional clarity and great shots, Dave. Yesterday, while at the lake, I had a Bald Eagle fly in behind me and started feasting on a Canada Goose. I have a heck of a time with the angle of the sun this time of the year, especially at 9:30 a.m.. I took about 50 photos shooting in the direction of the sun and then decided to try to circle around him and hopefully get a better position. I took another 50 photos, which were better, but none are close to the clarity of yours. Those are great photos !!!

Wonderful "in motion" shot!

That happens to me all the time....... Some days you just get lucky and get the right angle and get a few good ones.... I've had days where I was shooting, thinking that the angle should be ok, just to get home and not have hardly a one worth saving.... It's frustrating I know..... Just keep shooting, because you never know when that next good one is going to come along....

I could sit and watch these birds all day long if I had time...... Problem is I don't, which makes the time I do have that much more special.....

Dave, can you tell us again what camera and lens your using? Thanks!

New Matamoras, OH(Zone 6a)

pell;,

It's a Canon 10D The lens I used was a Canon 400MM F5.6 Sometimes I add a 1.4 extender to increase the reach to I think it is, 560MM ... I would love to have a 500 or 600MM 4.0 .. Maybe one of these days, as these lenses don't come cheap....

Dave..

That's why I am getting nothing around house done, because I am just enjoying the sights in my backyard here!! Have put up couple feeders & suet and am enjoying the show. The squirrles, all the birds!! In the last week I have seen blue birds, dark eyed juncos, downy woodpeckers, chickadees, titmouse, hawks, blue jays, cardinals. My husband saw a pileated woodpecker in our tree. I missed it & he didn't grab the camera!!!!

I would love to catch a glimpse of the eagles, I can't imagine seeing one in flight!!!
