Sod Grass for Lakeway Area

Lakeway, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello,
I'm sodding my new backyard.
The grass of choice here seems to be Bermuda.
I don't like it because of the rhysomes.
Any success/failures with other grasses?
Know of a good cheap place to get a few pallets?

Thanks,
Ima

Ima,
Are any of your immediate neighbors growing Bermuda? If they are, be prepared to overrun by Bermuda. St. Augustine will crowd out Bermuda if it is healthy anbd actively growing, but it requires a lot of water. There are several varieties of Buffalograss. Once established, it doesn't need much water or mowing. Check with your local Extension agent for the variety recommended for your area.

I would check into Zoisia. Not sure that's spelled right. We have burmuda and I wish we didn't. I read on some thread about Zoisia. Can't remember which one. Definitely do some research before you plant.

I actually like centipede. It is a slow grower from seed but sod can be checkerboard planted and spread well in a season. You might check with landscapers in your area. Centipede might not be a good choice for your soil...
