slow egg production

Casa Grande, AZ(Zone 9b)

I have about 60 hens and all winter I was getting about 4 dozen eggs a day. now that the weather is warming up a little, my production has dropped to 3 dozen a day. I finally got a customer base and now my "girls" are going on a work stoppage.
Anyone know how to combat a problem like this? would appreciate the help.

The hens are all the same age? When ages are staggered, it helps with the break in laying. I think you're already using supplemental light...?

Their bodies are made to take a break for a while. Mine took theirs October-January.

Large poultry houses have effective ways of forcing more egg production. But I should add that that's why I never bought eggs from them.

My chickens take a break in the middle of summer, and lay all winter for me. I have about l8 and their all the same age, I get anywhere from l2 to l6 eggs a day. In the winter I feed them laying pellets and corn chops. andOnly laying pellets inthe summer. I let them free range about 2 to 3 hrs before bed time. That helps tremendouslly, I can tell a difference when they don't get to free range. I give them egg shell too. and all the produce scraps.

What are you feeding and how much, it will make adifference if you dont give them enough protein . some folks don't feed at all and let them free range. I don'tknow if they get as many eggs. but seems I get alot of eggs when I feed good.

Isn't that just like the girls to go on full scholarship just at the wrong time!

mine have been laying off and on all winter.

I'd say crank up that feed, play a little relaxing jazz ( so they aren't tense ) and be happy. this gives you a good excuse to buy more chicks in the spring!

in seriousness, good luck, I hope ot works out for you! keep us updated.

Well they have to be at least a week old they have been trapped on a truck since Saturday in Iowa snow storm. Doing great now. Can I give chicks wax worms already? They love them.

Definatly a good source of fat. I get them at my sporting goods store. They gave me a bunch of not real healthy ones (starting to dry up) and I didn't have to pay for them.
