Drove out to the ranch again this weekend and got more photos of the Pipevine Swallowtails settling down to roost for the night. They are up in the trees but I think this is one of the better photos. There are 28 butterflies in this one shot :o)

Pipevine Swallowtails still roosting in same place
I hope you don't care, but more people have asked me about butterflies and I just tell them your name!!!!
too funny Betty :o) Most of my fellow butterfliers refer to me as "Cat Woman" or "The Cat Lady" because I'm always on the look out for caterpillars and raise butterflies. Guess having the nickname "Cat" just adds to the humor :o) But I get my laughs in too...I call the man who got me into raising caterpillars "The Grand Pupah " - a take off from the old Flintstones cartoon and the Grand Pubah leader of the Water Buffaloes.
...and another photo from 02-24-07

Great pics Cat! It's still a very strange sight tho. I can't wait until you find out what they are doing. :)
Just repeating myself, I guess.

Must be some host plants out there somewhere! I'll be happy to see some of them this spring!
I'll be looking for the aristolochia erecta this weekend. Considering there were so many emerging butterflies...am sure they will now have mated and hopefully found the plants to lay their eggs on. Just have to be patient and see if I can spot any caterpillars (that bright orange color does stand out in ranch county) and maybe I'll see some females flitting close to the ground looking for the plants as well.
Have talked to Mom several times this week...said she hasn't seen any more clusters of butterflies on the trees. Guess they've all decided to fly their separate ways. It sure was nice of them to herald in the spring season :o)
