Bought two plastic pots of these little tiny daffodils - cute as the dickens. I have no idea of the cultivar - will I be able to keep the bulbs, or is this a one-shot deal and I should chuck them after they finish blooming?
mini daffodils
Seandor, if they look like miniature ordinary daffodils they are probably Tete-a-tete. Keeping the bulbs will depend on whether they live, and that depends on the drainage to a good extent. In small pots they may get too wet and rot, or if they are allowed to get too dry after flowering the bulb won't be able to replenish.
Normally if daffs are to be lifted they should be given 6 weeks to replenish, the foliage starts to die back and they can be lifted, dried and stored dry until autumn. They are usually planted around October to November. I do keep some in terracotta pots until I have a place for them but they are grown in a free draining soil and compost mix, they are under a tree so in summer don't get too wet. The growing medium in a bought pot is unlikely to be good enough to sustain the bulbs, and may be the cause of them to rot in the end if it's peat or another similar medium.
I bought a pot last year with a Hyacinth, two Tete-a-tete and a primrose, they all died but the Hyacinth.
Thanks for the information wallaby1, I will make sure the little pots give plenty of drainage. I will also use a liquid fertilizer when I water. Once the folliage has died back, I will do as ou suggest and place them under some large evergreens where they are unlikely to get too wet.
Cheers,
Seandor.
Seandor, I've grown those little pots of daffodils and they turn out great. After they finish blooming, cut the watering giving less and less over a week or so and then stop watering and let them die back.
Then save the bulbs somewhere cool and plant them in the summer or fall to flower the folowing spring.
You'd never know they'd been forced.

Thanks Steven - they are just so darn cute! I really like the idea of planting them outside - maybe with some grape hyacynths. :-)
Your Welcome!
We bought a mixed bag of Mini Daffs and Grape Hyacynths this past fall and planted them in our front garden, they should look quite nice. Regular Hyacynths also grow well in the garden after being forced.

I've often bought these daffodils in pots then planted them out in the garden as soon as they have finished flowering and just let them die off naturally. They invariably return even better in future years. Give it a go!
Yes deb, I have B Golden Bells, and the species version which is shy to flower but is bulking up really well now after a few years, it has flowered a little.
They are very pretty!
Yes wallaby1, that's exactly what they look like - they are so darling!
