Ok, let's gear up for spring in a few weeks. It's just around the corner, you know. When I have to start putting March in the subject title we know it isn't far away. For some of you it hardly even goes away. When I hear Molly and Elaine talking about eating fresh greens from the garden it makes me so hungry for fresh veggies and fruits. I can hardly wait until time to plant potatoes.
Breakfast was really big this morning. A palm sized pattyof very lean sausage, 2 banty eggs, Pumpernickel toast with some rhubarb/blackberry spread I made last night. Not hard to make, just boil the fruit, add some softened unflavored gelatin(you can use purchased flavored Jell-o), and some sf sweetener. I used Whey Low this time. I don't think it is very sweet really. I know it is natural, but it is also very expensive so I don't think I'll be buying much if any more. $6 a lb. was the least expensive I was able to find and that was local with no s & h charges. I haven't been on the scales this morning. I think I'll wait a few days. I have had a few cookies, pop tarts, etc. this week and since I didn't feel like doing much exercising here at home I have a feeling it will be up a bit. I'll have to be more careful this next week. And plan in sugary snacks like are at PG most days when I go there. Pop tarts are a new weakness for me since they have been giving them out at the food bank. Even the dogs won't eat them for me. lol. I just broke down and ate the next to the last one. When they are gone I will be free from that temptation.
I need to go let the birds out for the day. I killed a big 'possum last night right after I go home. I had just locked up the bird house and heard Darcy beagle on the trail of something pretty close to the bird yard. I turned around for some reason and there it was running into the bird yard. So I quickly unlocked the house and got the pistol. Then Darcy and Penny, who had been barking at it, wouldn't show me right were it was. I had a flashlight with me or I may not have found it. I decided to look under an old rabbit nest box that was on the ground and it was in there. Something got one of the chickens last week. All I found was the pelvic frame and legs. No feathers which is strange. But it didn't look as tho it had been dead many days. The meat still had some red in it. I need to set that HavaHart trap now that the weather will be decent at night in just a few days. I'll likely catch mostly Holly's cats. My old duck hen in the utility room finally died last night. She had a couple good days last week and I wondered if it wasn't the last hurrah for her. She died well cared for. I doubt that bringing her in any sooner would have helped her.
We haven't heard from Chuck for some time. I know he mentioned that he wouldn't be posting as much but I sure miss him. Also thinking of those who started to visit and then didn't stay with us more than a few days. And those who were here for several weeks than moved on. I just pray they are ok and haven't lost their committment to healthy living.
GOD bless and keep each of you.
