Scented flowers that hang down?

Farmingdale, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi,

I'm pretty new to gardening and I'm wanting to set up something where I have some really lovely smelling plants in a tower situation and was wondering if anyone could direct me on what flowers would not stand upright but rather drape down..like how hanging baskets have flowers hanging down from them.

Here is the setup of what I'll be putting them in so you have an idea.

I'm doing one for strawberries too, but thought that it would be lovely to have one with just masses of flowers also..but I've never really grown flowers and don't know what is appropriate. They would also have to be suitable always for containers as I have no land to transplant them to.

Thanks!

You could put a Brugmansia in the middle and use other plants in the lower rings. I would tap out the bottom of the pots to give it more room for the roots. It can be pruned to around 5 foot and will produce lots of big fragrant flowers. This is a pink one but they come in white, yellow, and orange.

glory,
'Old-fashioned vining' and 'Balcony' petunias are great for hanging baskets. They drape nicely and smell great!!

Alyssum is nice and when its warm it smells like fresh hay/honey and would probably drape down pretty well. You can shear the older flowers heads down and it will flower again. Take a look at the seed listings at www.fragrantpathseeds.com I have bought seeds there before and they have a good Watchdog rating. You just have to order through snail mail but shipping is only $1 and most of the seeds are $1.50 or $2. The dwarf nasturtiums Golden Gleam and Scarlet Gleam, fragrant violas or some of the dwarf varieties of sweet peas like Sweetie or Bijou might be something you could look at.

Oh this is great! There is a bush in the next complex over that emits the most lovely fragrance in early June..I have no idea what it is...but it's really the first plant that I've experienced that smells pretty and want to have more around me. Thanks so much...I'll go look at all these now. I am so new to this..first time ever growing flowers, and I'm also trying to grow veggies in containers and I'm almost totally clueless about all of it....hahaha...I have tomato plants growing in little pots but learned I cannot put them outside in big containers until mid May because of the potential of frost and I'm just hoping that 12-14 weeks inside in little pots is not too long...but hey, ya gotta start somewhere and break a few eggs along the way.

Thanks so much for all your help!!
