New Bator for my eggs on the way!

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

After gathering up all of my recycled materials needed for the new incubator, I had to share with you guys and see what you thought. :-) This is my first incubator and I can't wait to add some eggs to it and watch them hatch. I can see how easily it would be to get addicted to! :) I've had it going for several days now and have the "kinks" worked out with the temp/humidity...........all I am missing is the eggs! (they should be here anyday now) Does everyone agree that a good temperature is 99.5 - 100.0 & good humidity is 55% - 60% until the last two days and then increase 10%? Thank you for your input!

Did you make that?

Claremore, OK(Zone 6a)

Wow, that's awesome ! I think ya done good ! If it stays at the temps and humifdity you mentioned, I can't see any reason you shouldn't have a good hatch.

Yeah, phicks................... I think TexasGardenMom can make about anything ! Did you see her chicken house in the other thread, it's awesome too.

By the way TexGrdnMom, ........ where in the world did you learn how to do all these neat things ? You sure do know your way around the carpenters bench I'd say. Wish I had even half your talent.

Northern Michigan, MI(Zone 5a)

That looks awesome, very inspirational !!!! Did you ever post pics of the inside of your chicken coop...I'd like to see those as well.

Thanks everyone. :-) You all made me smile................PeggieK, thanks for all the kind things that you posted, I really appreciate that. Made my day. :-)
Peggie ~ glad to know that I have my temp/humidity just right. I am expected eggs today! I am thrilled!
Yes, Paul I DID make that as well as my coop. I LOVE to work with wood, actually I LOVE to build things, period. DH says that he never knows WHAT he will come home to that day! LOL True. I can say that I grew up learning from the best. Raised by my grandparents, I spent hours and hours outside and on the job site with my contractor grandfather (Pa). I remember being 4 years old and him giving me my very own set of tools and scrap materials, then walked off saying "Sis, build me something". That was that ~ I have spent the last 40+ years perfecting my skills; as I have built every building we have around the farm. Big, medium, small, you name it and I built it. :-) I am thankful to Pa for sharing his wealth of knowledge with me.
Julie ~ I hope to finish the inside of the coop this weekend, and will post pics Monday to share my chickens "fine life". :)

Way to go building your own coop, girl!! I built my hoophouses for my fowls.... just have hubby only to help when the wire had to be put over the pipes..lol.....I am glad I am not the only lady on here that can build stuff with tools and stuff...lol...

Okay, I can now wish out loud that TexasGardenMom lived near me. I could just watch and learn...

That's a nice looking incubator. Very upscale! :)

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

What kind of eggs are you geting?

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Wow, that's good job you did.. I did once made my own one.. I got one egg hatch on easter day! I made with a foam ice chest, use picture frame glass on top, use lamp, bowl of water, temp.. water spray.. It cost me less $20 to make it and it worked! For turning eggs. I did it twice a day.

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks guys and Zeppy - - - - LOLOLOLOLOL, you are something! :-) Moodene, I do love to build things, and girl - - - I know my way around any blueprint! :) Thankfully!
Paul - I have Salmon Faverolle eggs in the bator now; Cuckoo Maran, Silkies, Aracaunas, Wyandottes, & Dominiques all on the way.........oh, I forgot about the Bourbon Red Turkey eggs are coming, too!
Mini ~ sounds like your bator was a nice, inexpensive start to hatching! I thought about going with a styrofoam bator, but then I had all of this wood to work with and I couldn't resist!
This weekend I build another bator just like this one, except bigger! Now, I have two up and running - - - eggs should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Can't wait to see if I can hatch them out ok. Excitement builds.... :-)

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the info lucky...........I do really LOVE Sydney and was simply curious. ☺
mc4tx - - - you are RIGHT about that! However, we do have LOTS of both peanuts and DP!

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

Zeppy wish she lived close to me to id have her bulid mine LOL

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Speaking of bators - - - my very first hatch of this year is due FRIDAY!!!!!! Woooo Hooooo! ☺☺☺ It looks like I have around a 95% viability rate. I have been very pleased with this particular bator, it seems to hold temps and humidity very well. I guess we'll tell EXACTLY how well in a matter of days. 21 days sure seems like a long time when you are watching the calendar so closely. lol
Paul, you better get your bator built and ready for those turkey eggs - - - all of mine from Dana are fertile, so you better get to your local home improvement store, get your necessary items and get busy! ☺ I've got a supply list put together if you need it..........just yell.

Alrighty, folks ~ ~ ~ drum roll please................XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX ~ my first bator which had 8 little Blue Salmon Faverolle eggs hatched out 6 of the cutest little fluffy balls I have EVER seen!!!!!!!!! I am sad to report that one of the six didn't make it out of the bator.......but the other five are happy and healthy! You guys have no idea what a terrific feeling it is to hatch your first babies in a bator that you created! Hooray!
Take a peek:
This first pic is of "Lucky" just out of his/her shell, still wet and goohy in the bator.

My next babies in bator #2 are due tomorrow!!!!!! Hopefully, I will have the same results there with the Welsummers and Cuckoo Marans! I'll try to keep you guys posted!
Happy Hatching,

TexasGrMom, where did you get your eggs ? I'm curious if you ordered them or got them locally.

I have only ordered eggs from Ebay once...........one dozen..........no hatches after 21 days of caring. So

frustrating. Unless I hear from someone who's had success, I don't think I will do that again. Not only

the expense of the eggs and shipping,......... but not one single baby after 21 days of watching, turning,

and waiting ?...................grrrr.

I really would like to do it again but want to find a little more reliable source for the eggs.

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Peggie ~
I am so sorry that you had such bad luck with your eggs. That is terribly frustrating. I did purchase my eggs on eBay. I search very carefully for sellers who have a 100% positive feedback. If you have a certain type of egg that you are looking for, I might can help you find a GOOD seller. I have several that I keep in contact with. I also can tell you that it is best to find eggs within your region, so that they don't go through the cold/hot of the mailing process. The least amount of changes the eggs have, the better off you will be. Let me know what type you are looking for and I'll do my best to you out! I had someone who was willing to get me started in the right direction (and it worked!), so I will gladly pay it forward. :-)

Belinda, You go girl! Chickie Mom and a Carpenter too! I wouldnt have known where to begin , even with instructions on building an Incubator! Im going to learn though! I had a Styro bator given to me, but I never could get anything to hatch. Then I tried to use the tiny little 4 egg one from GQF(?) , no luck! So I quit trying with the eggs. Im sticking with ordering and Mama Barred Rock, for a while! I hope she will set again this year, Shes getting old though and might have different plans!

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Eufaula. As you know, I love carpenter work of any type. :-) As long as Mama Barred Rock is working for you, I would stick to it. Sure is easier! lol Just not quite as exciting, huh? How old is she?

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Ohhhh Mama is about 4 now! Healthy and no feather loss, so plump youd think she was a spring Chicken! CockleLooLoo thinks shes Sexy!!!! LOL!!!
