HI Cedar, no I don't remember getting an email. Just a auto reply thing. I'm in no rush, I have rose cuttings to get potted up so if I don't hear from them by Wed, I'll give a call. I have to look up what you got.
Sound like you are going to have some real beauties. Please take lots of photos.

Maureen ... You're coming to Florida, huh? What part of the state? You are in for some really great weather! We had 81 yesterday and today .... low humidity and lots of sunshine! I think Spring has arrived for us! Have a great time while you are down here!
Cedar, that sounds great. You can post them anywhere you like :-)
Plantlady - yes, I'm going to Florida on Tues to see my Mom, she's in Pompano Beach for Jan thru April. We live 5 mins. apart (the other 8 months of the year) so I really miss her, All I want to do is relax on the beach!! Can't wait. I've hear the weather has been nice.
Maureen: Yes! You will definately have "Beach" weather while you are in Florida. Pompano Beach is much farther south than I am! Weather is a lot warmer down there!
Have a Great time with your Mom!

No free plant? I think I would call them about that. You should have gotten one.Bet they would still send it.They are really good about that.
Oh I Love Your Satin Rose : ))
Nancy
Love 'Satin Rose' .... soooo pretty!
I have ordered from both Rob's and Bluebird's once each and the plants I got from BB were far superior to the ones I got from Rob's. I don't know why that would be the case, but it was. I think you should call Rob's too, and let them know that you didn't receive your freebie ... I'm sure they will send one!
I've heard that rob's plants are smaller, but that their selection is good and prices just a drop lower. I've ordered from them a number of times, but not the others so I can't compare. I choose vendor mostly based on selection - as most of you know, I mostly grow non-AVs....
But I was dropping in on this thread to mention that time of year is sometimes a factor. Many vendors propagate so the plants are ready for spring shipping. So that means that early spring orders might be smaller than the same plants ordered in late spring (if they haven't sold out!). Then later in the season, the plants might be small again if they have to prop more. Just another consideration to throw into the mix.
Great point Key! I hadn't even thought of that, but I'm sure you are right on! I made my purchases from both Rob's and Bluebirds in November! The difference in the two orders could very well have been due to the time of year and the supply they had on hand at that time. I will order from Rob's again in the future. I think sometimes we Southerner's (especially me, being here in Florida) forget about growing conditions elsewhere in the Country!
Thanks for the reminder! Do you think it would help if I spent some time up North during the winter? LOL. It's been a long time since I experienced really, really cold temperatures for very long! Maybe living down South with all the heat, makes the brain turn to mush!
:)

I've never ordered from BlueBird but I have ordered for the past 3 years from Rob. The plants he sends are always on the small size but they are healthy and usually ready to repot (standards). Once repotted they grow quickly.
Hello to all I used to order from granger gardens when they were in business[ lived 30 minutes away] they spoiled me plants were always clean and healthy, i bought their plants more than 10 years, bluebird's plants are large and husky, no complaint-- i got some violets from Rob's seemed to have just been removed from the mother leaf they are still growing to a nice standard size now. Lyndon Lyon plants are very good as well, i see some use optimara fertilizer, i questioned the fact of 1/2 teaspoon to one gallon was told they would do well every 6 weeks run plain water through the pots-- Question anyone use their potting soil.? Thanks for anyreply-- morganberg
Morganberg. Thanks for the info on Lyndon Lyons. I am considering placing an order with them this spring. It is good go know you are happy with them.
About Optimara potting soil. It is ok if you hand water. It tends to get dry in the middle while the outside stays wet. Don't know why. You just have to make sure the entire root ball is moistened. The soil is very fine and for me hard to work with. I like any comercial potting mix that says ph for avs. I add 2 parts perlite to that mix. I use to also add vermiculite but found it retained too much water. I wick most of my plants.
Glad to hear about Lyndon Lyon.....
