Will be in Vancouver for nearly a week for my daughter's wedding on March 10. Are there any good places to buy hostas in Vancouver area that would already be open at that time?

Hosta nurseries in Vancouver area
viola Ann...........you can try some of the nurseries in the Langley and White Rock area........Cedar Rim Nursery in Langley, Gardenworks near Crescent Beach, Surrey, .........are you near the airport during your stay?? If so, Richmond, has many also..........good luck................Elaine
Ann, I'm going to be arriving in Vancouver a day after your daughter's wedding and staying until the following Sunday. I hope to check out some nurseries when I'm there and was wondering if there's anything special I need to know about bringing live plants on the plane with me if I decide to buy something. Have you done this before?
Tks,
Erynne
Hi Erynne,
Where will you be in Vancouver? Hope you have a good visit.
I've never brought things back with me. Have sent Canna tubers TO Vancouver with DD, but not the reverse. I just figured that I wouldn't try to bring too many if I found some. But I'm beginning to think that we have better pickings here in Ontario.
Ann
Forgive my manners Ann but I seemed to have forgotten to say in my post.....CONGRATULATIONS for your daughter's big day and to your family!!
"I just figured that I wouldn't try to bring too many if I found some"
Lol, sometimes it just doesn't pay to fight it!
Ok, I just phoned CATSA, which is security for all airports in Canada. They make final decisions about what gets through and what doesn't apparently.
www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca, phone 1-888-294-2202.
I asked if it's permissable to bring live plants on the plane and the fellow said it's not a problem, but to ensure that the soil is as dry as possible.
We will be staying 10 mins from downtown Vancouver on Kingsway near Victoria Dr. We're definitely going to take the Tswwassen Ferry over to the island so I can get a gander at Butchart Gardens (priorities ya know). Hopefully some of the spring bulbs would be up by the 16th of March and even if not, I'll be glad to go.
Back to planning my itinerary,
Erynne

There's a good hairdresser on Victoria who will trim my shaggy locks on Thursday. Last summer she was at a salon on Nanaimo and it took some work to track her down.
We'll be at the Granville Island Hotel and my daughter's house is a couple of blocks from Commercial Drive's Skytrain station.
Good news re plants on planes. Makes sense to have fairly dry soil. Hope you are successful in your visit to Butchart Gardens.

PS Here's DGD trying on her flower girl dress last week. I still have to hem the sleeves of the jacket.
Beautiful girl....beautiful dress! Bet she feels like a little princess when she wears it. Your DGD has really grown alot since the last photo I remember seeing of her. I hope you can post a photo of her and her brother side by side, all decked out for the occasion. The pair of them must be very excited about their Aunt's big day.
Erynne
Awwww..... adorable!
She put the dress on and immediately started twirling in circles. It was hard to get her to stay still for a picture. Erynne, she KNOWS she's a real princess all the time. LOL
I'm pretty sure Gardenworks on Lougheed Hwy in Burnaby has a good selection of bagged Hosta available. I know a few smaller nurseries but not sure what their availability at this time of year. Feel free to dmail me.

This place used to sell retail and mailorder but I think they only do wholesale: http://www.perennialgardener.com/hosta.htm
