I went on a seed collecting hunt through the crotons.I got this many seeds so far and still about 500 more on the plants yet to finish up.I have been crossing many exotic varieties to get seeds. Considering it can take up to 4 yrs to get a true representation of the final colors I got a long time to wait to see what I really get. They look just like miniature castor bean seeds.
:-)
Handful of dreams........
Buena Suerte, Brah....
That should be very interesting. I know a few forms really never stop mutating it seems as the leaves age they change and really never have a stable from. I had not heard of any one breeding them Crotons for some reason I thought it was difficult but with seeds like that it looks much easier than I had thought. I did visit Dr Brown in Florida if you get a chance you should contact him he wrote the book on Crotons and has many many odd forms at his nursery.
Sounds like an interesting venture.
It'll be fun to discover the fruits of your labor!
Good luck and have fun with it!
consider selling any of those seeds?
dale, I have a question for you? We get all these Exotic angel plants coming out of Florida at Lowes....here is a fittonia that roots so quickly I can't believe it....here is a baby only weeks old.....in your zone which is so much warmer than our, could this plant ever be used as a ground cover or just in a flower bed. I love it and keep propagating it...
Kyle, you are truly amazing. Keep us posted on their progress.
And I was expecting color already LOL. I have room in the greenhouse I think LOL if you need to put them somewere.
Good luck with them good to see new hybridizing going on.
Kyle, I think some folks here could give you some ideas about where to put those babies. LOL
Babysitters abound around here. :-)
ardesia's got that right (Ü)
If you should ever wish to 'barter' for some seeds, I'd be sincerely interested.
I'm thinking that a seed-grown Croton may have a better chance indoors.
