It's Spring!!!

North Augusta, ON

I saw a Robin on the way home from town today....now I know spring is here...whooo hooooo...cept their calling for wet snow all day tomorrow, poor Robin, maybe he jumped the gun a bit?

Cool. Do you normally see the first robin this time of year? We don't seem to get them until mid-March.

I was surprised to see him, it seems a bit early, but I am taking it as a sign of an early spring.

We have some robins here all year round.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

No robins here yet but I did see a Virginia Opposum for the first time in my life last night on my driveway. Really odd creature.

The robins that hang out at my house really creep me out because they follow me around my yard when I'm gardening. They're so brazen and will sit just a couple of feet away from me even with babies in tow. I think they' were waiting for me to move so they can get at the freshly dug earth for worms.

I sure hope it's going to be an early spring!

A Possum?? In Mississauga?? How cool is that!!! Maybe they'll get this way soon....

Yep, our Robins do the same thing, follow us around watching and waiting. We even had a couple that would come beg for french fries, of all things, when Hubby and I have the truck open.

Ha ha! So they're little beggars eh! Maybe they're just as bad as the gulls that hang out at McDonalds, lol.
I notice the robins also love it when I set the sprinkle on the garden.....there they are digging and gobbling up the worms. They also can be pretty destructive around the bases of my plants. I shoo them away when I see that happening. Funny that I never noticed the habits of robins until I started gardening.

Yes, I saw an Opposum right here in Mississauga. Oh my goodness! I didn't know what it was at first and somehow the image of possums from a childhood story book came into mind. So I googled it and found out how they're not native to these parts but made their way up here from the US quite some time ago as temperatures got a bit warmer. I did walk up to it but not too close, just to get a better look, and it seemed quite docile. I hope I can get a picture of this little stranger one day.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

You're not far from Ottawa are you? Down close to Merrickville if I remember my country area right? I can't see a Robin being seen in Ottawa yet - too much snow still. But it's great that they're getting close.

Yep, I'm just a few minutes south of Merrickville. They should be there in a few days :)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Erynne you should really report your sighting of the the Opossum to your local Nature Ontario organization. I didn't check to see if others have reported it in Ontario or not but .......

This is the range I found for it on the net:

Opossum The Virginia opossum can be found in most of the United States east of the Rocky Mountains and on the West Coast. It is also found in Mexico, Central America and in British Columbia, Canada. http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/opossum.htm

edited to say but I see you did ;)

We saw our first Robin at the bird bath this morning. Last year it was March 03/ so they are a little early this year for us..They are calling for snow here tonight so I hope he finds a warm place to roost for the night.

Well we had sunshine today so I spent most of the day outside getting the beds ready for spring. I looked and looked but didn't find any robins out there. Where are the robins... oh where are the robins :) I want spring to be here so bad this year. I took off most of the leaves and straw I had mulched the beds with. A lot of things were actually starting to sprout under all that so maybe spring is very close after all.

We have a family of squirrels that live in a big tree out front and I didn't see them either. Perhaps the sunshine was to bright.
