for B/CS residents.....where to find dirt?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Lol....I mean compost and soil for making flower beds. The only place that has been suggested so far is producer's coop. Are there other places?

Kim, there is a place on Texas Ave, just south of Deacon.Haven't bought anything there but it is close to my house so I drive by. There is also another place that I bought rocks from in Navasota. It is just west of town I think on 105. They also had soil and compost, but don't have experience with it either.Martha's Bloomers sells compost that they make, but don't deliver, you'd have to haul it yourself.I'd be interested in knowing where you finally end up buying and how it works for you.We need to get some for our lawn...nancy

Thanks Nancy! Someone here at my lab also suggested that if you are a BTU customer, you are able to get compost a couple times a year from the city...not sure but I am going to check on that as well. Since I've got a truck hauling it isn't a problem. I just don't want to pay a fortune to compost my veggies and such. Are you going to be able to come to the roundup here in April?

Kim, I'm not sure about the date yet,There are several weddings coming up, but I saw your thread about the nursery tour and that sounds like fun. I'll watch for any further details and maybe we can carpool to meet debbie...nancy

Sounds good to me! I got more info on the compost.....here is a link detailing it: http://www.bryantx.gov/departments/?name=composting . I may go get some this weekend since it is past time for me to get the garden ready.

Kim, Let me know how this compost looks to you. I went to the seminar at Martha's Bloomers about composting. Since it was the rep for a Cotton Burr compost they talked mostly about that kind. One thing they mentioned about it was that their kind took a long time to break down so it would stay in your soil for more that one season. The soil in the front lawn is so bad I need to put stuff on it several times a year for the next few years to improve it.Anything I put in last summer is long gone so this year I'm really going to try and be diligent about putting compost as often as I can.nancy
