HAVE: Aristolochia Elegans/Calico Flower/Dutchman's Pipe

Edinburg, TX

I have seeds from aristolochia elegans (also known as aristolochia littoralis, Calico Flower, Dutchman's Pipe).

This is the larval host of the Polydamas Swallowtail butterfly and possibly the Pipevine Swallowtail.

Each pod holds about 400+ seeds and I have about 30 pods to trade away.

Am looking for something that will grow tall (6+ feet), grow in poor soil :o) and provide nectar or at least color to shade a west side wall or butterfly/caterpillar larval host plant seeds like flame acanthus (anisacanthus wrightii), carlowrightia (carlowwrightia parvoflora), green amaranth (amaranthus hybridus), plantain (plantago), Texas thistle (cirsium texana), stonecrop (sedum texanum), vasey adelia (adelia vaseyi), dalechampia, screwbean mesquite (prosopus reptans), scarlet pea (indigofera miniata), barbados cherry (malpighia glabra), pasiflora suberosa (corky stem passion flower), balloon vine (cardiosperum), frogfruit (phyla incisa), scarlet spiderling (boerhaavia coccinea)

- or -

the equivalent amount (300+) of any good butterfly nectaring seeds like zinnias, asters, monarda, lipia, salvia.

If anyone is interested in trading - make me an offer and send me D-mail as I don't check the site daily.

These are the green pods - I let them dry on the vine before I harvest them

Hi Cat,

I am very interested in adding this plant to my yard as a larval host plant. Do you know if the seeds have particular requirements for germination?

If you are interested, I have a large supply of mixed tall zinnia seed that I harvested last year after the butterflies enjoyed them.

Hi Cat,
I have been wanting to grow this vine for the longest and would love to give it a try.
I have stopped selling on eBay for a while so I can get caught up on too many things that I can't seem to get to otherwise. One of those major projects that I will be doing is going through all of the zillions of seeds I have bought over the last few months and I'll just bet I will come up with some awesome seeds for you, especially in your zone.
I'll also check out your list of 'wants' to see if I have any of those.

Thanks Cat,
Emma

Hi Cat,

Have any more of the A. elegans seeds? I found an old Delaware license plate in the garage.
