I have bare root daylilies of different types bought from Wal-Mart a month ago and I'm anxious to get them out of the bag and into the ground. It's warmed up quite a bit - do you think it would be safe to put them into the ground next week? Last average frost date for my area is mid-march. I was thinking they might be able to go through a light freeze maybe if one happened?
Safe yet for Daylilies?
The daylilies I planted several yrs ago are just now starting to pop up thru the soil...its the dad-gum rabbits I have a problem with. I got one bloom last yr! (And they had just been divided so I expected a bunch of flowers...but the rabbits kept them to the ground.) One of my "critter sitter" clients gave me a "deer chaser" for xmas...been working great! It covers a pretty wide area & is motion activated...a light and the radio click on for about 10 secs. That's why I'm seeing dayliies growing. SO, no, I don't think its too early to get them planted. AND, we've had some horribly cold days and nights here this year. Your plants will probably love you forever if you got them out of the bag and into some soil!!
Also saying "Grow and prosper" at the time of planting seems to help a lot too!!
Luck to you, Debbie

Oh, I might add a bit of a dance and light a candle to that one! I love it!
*so excited*
