A couple of new plants

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I was having a bad case of plantitis yesterday and I just had to have a dose of plants to help me get over it. So I went to HD, Lowes, and Walmart. I did not get anything at HD or Lowes, but Walmart had just got some new things in so I had to have a few things. The first one is, of course, an African Violet. It is called Optimara Indiana. Here is her photo.

Here is a closeup of Indiana. I like the way the color gets darker as you get closer to the center of the flower.

Here are a couple that are OT but I wanted to share them with you anyway. This first one is a Calathea, sometimes called a Peacock Plant.

I'm not exactly sure what this one is but maybe you guys will know. I bought it for my DH who likes odd and unusual plants.

I got the AV in the pink pot from Walmart. I also got one more that I forgot to show you. It is a Bird's Nest Fern and I got it from Lowe's.

Hi Jesse,

The plant you bought for your DH looks like one I have. Its called Lucky Bean tree.

Thanks Jannich. Is there anything I need to know about taking care of it? I don't want it to die. He has already killed a few of the plants that I got for him so I want to make sure this one stays alive.

Here is some more information on the Lucky Bean Plant in case anyone is interested.

Quoting:
It's in the genus Castanospermum, and it's a native Australian tree that grows to about 60 feet tall and is hardy only in Zone 10. It's seen quite a bit as a landscape plant in south Florida and portions of southern California, but most of us can only grow it as a patio plant or houseplant. Still, it's worth growing, if only for its rather bizarre seed pods from which the stems emerge. It's fairly easy to grow; just place it in a spot that gets filtered light and keep the soil moist but not soggy.

Your welcome Jesse. This is what it says on the tag.

Water:
Allow potting mix to dry out partially between watering.Provide excellent drainage.Do not allow plant to sit in water.

Light:

Filtered sun.

Continuing care.
Keep soil moist. If your plant begins to wilt often it is time to transplant into a larger pot.

Fertilzer: Feed twice a month in summer and fall.

Hope this helps:)

Thanks Jannich.
