Colocasia formosana.... help

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Hiya,
I'm new to Colocasia and loved the look of this one so thought i'd invest.
So far so good it turned up wrapped in wet newspaper and in a plastic bag.
I potted it straight away and put it in my growing room nice and warm with extra artificial light.
The 2 leaves seemed to yellow over night so i trimmed them to reduce water loss through the leaves.

Any tips any one?

Do you have pics of this plant? Or a source? I would be interested in seeing what it looks like I have had no luck finding photos on the net. It is possibly remustia? I could ID it if I see a pic but I think they are confused sometimes though it seems both are lagit names.

Mike I looked at the site and the photo they have shown on the website is a Xanthosoma a south american species. Though they said the seeds were collected in Tiawan which would be were formosana is from. I asked if they would be willing to ship me a few hopefully so. Formosana from what I can gather has no back lobes so the leaves should look like big tear drops or spears. This would be a great addition to my breeding program. Hopefully I can get a few and hopefully they are the right species. Good luck once your seedling gets a few leaves post them up. I would like to see it.

Hiya,
The plant i was sent had 2 leaves but these where yellow and semed to dry out overnight!
My plant is not the happiest i have seen! I buy and sell plants for a living, but these i know nothing about.

If they won't ship to you directly i can try and buy some and then send on to you. Might be more expensive with 2 lots of posting but if its the only way let me know. You won't be the first person in the US i have done this for. hehe

Do you know how to grow theses? Will loosing the leaves kill it or can it grow new ones from the rootstock?

hey, maybe i worried too soon. I have been away for a few days and wrote that last post without going to look at it.

Its sprung a new leaf! Its all curled up at the moment but it held upright and looks healthy!

I'll get you a picture as soon as it opens.... at this speed it could be overnight!

They are very fast growers much like a banana. The tubers hold energy and in a warm bright area they seem to take off fairly fast. I can usually ID them very well even from juvinal plants. The papers I have seen on this species says it has no real back lobes so it would have a almost tear drop shaped leaf. I will tell you what I can when you get a pic up. If it looks different I would be very interested in getting a few. I talked to the nursery and they said they do not ship here. This seem to happen often when I find something I really want LOL.

Hiya,
I think if i wait till sunday the leaf will be fully open. Or is a curled leaf good enough.
Its half open now and today has been really dull weather!

Don't worry about getting one at the moment. There is allways a way.
I only have one because they had another plant i have waited for 2 years to get!
It cost me a total of £125 as the delivery charge was big so i ordered these other bits to spread the cost. lol

By the way the nursery is Welsh and i'm English so i doubt they like me too much. hehe

Speak soon

Was that a 125 pounds for the plant?

Sorry it was the totall... i'll show you why.

1x (Araceae)Colocasia > formosana £10.00 £10.00
2x (Asteraceae)Dahlia > imperialis £15.00 £30.00
1x (Araliaceae)Schefflera > taiwaniana £30.00 £30.00
1x (Apiaceae)Myrrhidendron > donnellsmithii £12.50 £12.50
1x (Apiaceae)Eryngium > aff. strotheri £8.50 £8.50
1x (Alstroemeriaceae)Bomarea > aff. costaricensis £12.00 £12.00
total £103.00
postage & packing £25.00
order total £128.00

The packing was the same for 1 plant as it was for all this lot so i added these to my order.

In the end the Alocasia was bigger and £15 and the Myrrhidendron wasn't available!
The hardy sheff and the alocasia are the best looking ones at the moment.
