I'm growing several of your native Triteleia's this year for the first time. This particular variety T laxa "Butte Co form" is from Diane Chapman's Telos Bulbs. I love her stuff, it always does really well for me--so I'm not questioning the quality of the bulbs; just how they are behaving for me. I'm trying these in pots their first year and if they do well, they will do well in the ground too. I have some very dry areas up under the eaves of the house for them. I went out yesterday and this pot clearly has buds forming. I think I forgot I had 2 pots of this variety.
Advice from California, please.
The sun was shining this morning, a rare thing down here this winter, so I went out to take pics of daffy's and Ipheions that were blooming and Fressia's that are fixing to bloom. I look over at a bed I wasn't expecting anything from and spotted the other pot with this bloom scape. Now from what I can find out, these are supposed to bloom out there from March on, right? We have probably had a lot more rain and some days with warmer temps than Northern California usually has but we did have a low of 28 here early Friday morning. Do you think a little earlier bloom might be expected here as opposed to northern California? I must say its pretty exciting to have something other than Ipheions and Daffy's blooming now or about to bloom.
I have some other varieties that did not get planted until November located in a more shaded area. They have also popped up but are only about 5" high with no sign of blooming soon. If this is a normal early blooming bulb, I may have to invest in a few more varieties this fall.
Excuse the pic's, they are not that great--I was after other plants and hurriedly snapped these.
