I suppose I should have posted this in foliage plants.....
Another Lowe's beauty...alocasia
No....I'm glad you posted here! I rarely look at foliage plants, and I have one of these amazing plants. My husband and I call it "the Alien". I thought I had killed it, but I guess it just went dormant for a while, because I just got a new leaf on it. How would you suggest is the best way to care for it?
oh my...another fine score...bettygail, you have been busy :)
Lovely plant indeed... I've one I brought in for the winter..but it died back to nothing... then a dark black sprout came up a few weeks ago... now I havethe first leaves open.. it's gone from being black to the dark green of Bettys.. ready to make more for the new season... I was so thrilled I hadn't lost it..
I saw a variagated one in a plant catalog... what a beauty.. the leaves along with the usual interesting veining had each leaf 1/2 white...looking quite pure white..on the dark green leaf.. and only $65.00. so tempting... since they seem to stay alive season to season for me..
About Logees...I was there yesterday..a trip to their magical greenhouse..and only about a three hour drive.. up one way.. their parking lot.. a gravel area...covered with packed ice..but they have sprinkled it with dirt... to keep one from slipping.... inside a series of connected old glass green houses.. gigantic specimen plants they use for cuttings are behind the smaller pots of sale items... and many of them in full bloom..a long with lots of in ground vines and plants blooming as well..... gigantic orange trees...in full bloom and covered with the biggest oranges and lemons in the world.. just endless piles of plants in bloom... in these warm ...real humid greenhouses...like a trip to a tropical botanical garden.. in the middle of winter... and the joy is... you can bring them home with you... I'll not go on but they were lovely ...and at check out... they securely bunch the plants into trays..and place the trays into large clear plastic bags....filled with air and tied at the top.. so you walk out with a large greenhouse looking package filled with plants..
It my favorite New England Winter Escape... Gordon
I am sooooooo jealous that you live near Logee's.....my favorite place
I can't remember the names above, but Allison in florida told me they are called some kind of a giant elephants's ear and that they are quite expensive to order. I asked her if I could put it in the ground where the washing machine flows out and the ground stay wet. She said they didn't like to be kept wet and they don't like sun.....That is all I know for now....
I love mine ! Its going in the ground in Spring !
Here my picture is in plany files with the sun shining thre the leaves !
You can post your picture here too !

Betty, do you bring these in for the winter?
Yes, I have gro lights all over the house ....stands, too with tents......we hit 28 the other night, but I think the worst is over except for 35 mph winds today from the south east. I also just found on that site a Lobelia 'cardinalis'....I am shipping out three today in a trade...i found those at Lowe's the other day.....
But now it is going to be harder if we get cold weather because I have planted in containers for the patio everything on all the stands, both inside and the ones on the front porch on the heating mats......
We are lucky in that we can find sooo many good plants down here, but then I don't get to grow Thompson and Morgan 'iceland poppies in Pastel meadows'.....I lived in zone 6 once.....
that website agri-starts is awesome!
