Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

From this distance it looks like a tree form of Opuntia cactus. get a closer look! LOL then ask for a pad.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Carol

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Hmmm Guessing Crassula but could be opuntia. Need a close up. Are those pads modified leaves or modified stems?

Mike

COOL!!!!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I keep looking at it. Its so weird lookin.
Can you take some more pictures?

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

Carol,

Sure looks like Opuntia. I wonder if it is a graft job?

You tropical guys get away with stuff like that!

Mike

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thats one of the most bizarre things I've seen! Are those fruits or seed pods along the edges?

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Oh I Like!!

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Carol does it look anything like this: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/139899/

Jeri

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Jeri...it doesn't look like that. The 'foliage' is grey green...and the little nubbies on the paddles are like 'cactus pears' ... some of the little nubbies are blooms, too.

Will go back, maybe today, and take closerup pics....if it stops raining. Needless to say, I am going to ask for pieces!!!

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Carol I messed up on our arrival date to your island. We will be there on the 24th instead of the 23rd. I hope this doesn't mess you up.

Jeri

P.S. Get an extra piece of that plant for me. LOL Here I go.

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

i think it is in this family: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/30034/

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Have changed plans today to go take closer pics and talk to owners.....

Jeri...24th is NO problem!!

Carol

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

I am going to guess that is a Consolea species (related to Opuntia). Definitely a cactus, not a Crassula. Those are cactus pads covered with cactus fruits.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Yeah Palm bob has it! (well i think so anyway) heheh

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Hooray!!! Thanks Palm Bob!!!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Thank you so much!!!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

That is one cool cacti!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Cool looking plant !!

Bucyrus, OH(Zone 6a)

From Xenomorph and Palmbob I did a plantfiles search: http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/70725/index.html a/k/a "Roadkill Cactus" :) Love the name.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I wonder how long it took to grow this big. Definitely cool looking.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Gee, just imagine telling someone you have a Roadkill in your garden............ LOL

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

That's a pretty fast plant... coud get that tall from a small cutting in just 6-7 years.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Well, yesterday with some time to kill I went by this cactus to beg for a piece of it. I came away having met a new friend and charming woman, lots of pieces (some rooted), cutting of a new gardenia I had never seen growing more prostrate with HUGE leaves, 3 hibiscus cuttings and a pink fleshed pomelo (kind of citrus). Annette was charming, interesting and urged me to come back for more cuttings and seeds. I really was not surprised...the people here are wonderfully generous, love their gardens and love to share.

She calls it the 'Friendly Cactus' because it has no spines...and that plant is 10 years old!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Sounds like you had a great time making a new friend. I bet you were a very happy person leaving there with all those goodies!
