Hello From NC

High Point, NC

I am new to the group. Hello All!! I have been gardening about 10 years. Made a lot of mistakes in the yard along the way but, I've tried to learn from them. I found this site when I was researching about predators of the Koi fish. I have lost 7 this week (which was my total stock.) Come to find out it was a heron. If anybody has info on how to protect your pond I sure would appreciate it

Welcome to The Garden! You will love it here ... so many wonderful and kind people, so much knowledge available! I am fairly new, I joined in October and have been having a blast. It is a fun web site, I've made many friends and have traded some plants too!

I have no idea how you can protect your Koi from Predators ... that Heron probably just thought you were being kind and inviting himm to a free dinner! Is there maybe some kind of net you could put over the pond? Do the Heron's eat your fish year round, or is it just happening now in the winter time? Living here in Florida we see Heron's on the water all the time too. Hope someone else will chime in here ... maybe someone who has a pond on their property. I wonder, is there another forum that covers ponds? It would probably be a good idea to start one!

BOUQUETS and a big welcome Brenda! Have fun learning, growing and chatting about everthing in and out of the garden! Can't give you any advice about the herons, they do have a forum about water gardens, perhaps you'll receive some good insights there!
