Hi Sandy!
I'm moving this year, so I'll be digging up every single bulb by golly (I've even thought I should rig up a sieve, just like panning for gold nuggets, lol). I have several specie tulips, so I'll be sure to let you know when the big excavation happens. I also have tons of daffs (other than plain yellow, about 100 varieties). Late May through June I'll be digging them, so if I forget be sure to remind me :)

Hi Neal! Oh that would be so kind of you! I am so sorry that you are moving- i know how you loved your gardens...
I do hope all is alright? I really enjoyed our past sharing... at least you know where you can get so very nice plants for your new home! ;-)
Thank you Neal... I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!
Where are you going to?

Oh, this will be a great move, and hopefully my last. I do love it here, but being surrounded by woods does have its limitations, especially sun. The new place not only has plenty of mature trees to keep my shade plants happy, but lots of open, sunny expanses! The new place is in Winchester, about 40 miles West of here. I'll have a barn and outbuildings too! I love barns, and have always wanted to see a barn with old fashioned plants like hollyhocks and sunflowers growing next to it. I have a friend who is going to set me up with a pair of peafowl; I've always dreamed of having a peacock meandering around the garden!
Will talk soon!

Neal

If you have any bulbs that would do well in more southern climates please keep me in mind!

By the way, I hear guinea hens are great at taking care of themselves (although not as good as peacocks at being guard birds) and also eat all of the ticks....

:)

Hi Neal,
Sounds like a wonderful area and that your going to have lots of space(and FUN!) in your new venture!
Your going to love the pea's- we worked for a client who had many of them..and they scared the living daylights out of us..lol
we'd be working and the next thing you would hear is this gosh awful sound behind you! They are such a curious bird and so beautiful! I have your hollyhocks to help with your vision of your barn.
I wish i could be there to help you dig..its going to be a big job getting all that done. But a ture labor of love.
I was very happy to hear it wasn't anything bad going on-
Congrats to you!

Thank you both so much! The only thing I'm going to miss from here is the soil, a moisture retentive sandy loam; my days of planting with my bare hands are soon to be over. The new place has pretty good soil, but its a clay loam and some areas are somewhat compacted. But it does at least have a good dark color, and since the house is old, all the top soil was'nt stripped away.

I've been planning on getting some guinea fowl too! I love it that they eat ticks, and I've seen them attack and eat snakes too.

plantnut, I think I do have some varieties of daffs that do well down south, and probably some other stuff too. I'll make lists as everything gets dug.
