I adopted a kitty from the local shelter just before Christmas. She promptly came down with a cold (she had only been at the shelter a day when I found her). After about a week she started getting noticeably better. However, it doesn't seem like she's ever gotten totally over it. She sneezes occasionally, but what concerns me the most is that it seems like she is always struggling with a mucus ball. You know what it's like when you have a cold and can't swallow it or blow it out - it's just there....? That's how I imagine she's feeling. Today I noticed a rattle in her purring/breathing too. She had just woken up and it went away within a few moments, but I just want to know if I should be concerned....
She was on antibiotics for about 10 days while she had the cold (a little over month ago) - do you think she needs another round? I know that cats who catch the cold virus can be carriers and perhaps more susceptible to getting it again...is that all this is? I will probably call the vet tomorrow, but thought I'd ask here first. I know many of you have adopted from shelters and have experience with the shelter colds.
By the way, she's eating normally and no real behavior changes.
Many of you have seen her already, but I have to post another picture. This is Whispurr. I adore her - and she knows it!
Thanks
Christina
