OT- black bat plant

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I dont know if anyone here is interested in (tacca) aka bat plant but just in case you are you might want to check your local home depot stores. I went into the store close to my house yesterday ( 5 minute drive) and they had a nice shipment of them in.

I've never seen these for sale anywhere other than online and they can be quite expensive. The ones at HD were in full bloom and cost $25. The buds on them had already begun to fade a bit. I think it might have been due to the transition from the gh to the store.

That sure is pretty. But alas, none in my local Home Depot.

Not here either. Are they labeled? I'll keep looking. Thanks for the heads up. Cindy

No they are not labled. The company that supplies these plants along with others that frequently show up at Home Depot obviously think we all are suppose to know what everything is!!

They send our local store all sorts of unique and interesting things throughout the year and nothing ever shows up with a lable, growing instructions or anything and the plants always seem to start out in the $25 range.

I knew what the bat plants looked like and of course they just happened to be in bloom so that helped as well, otherwise i'd of probably walked right by them.

I'll be stalking all the HD's now until I find one. Thanks again.

Tacca like shade and lots of water.... The seeds are viable, too!!!

I checked the lable on the pot and all it says is grown for home depot by greenleaf nursery, homestead florida. That's basically all you get when you purchase their plants. As far as a name and how to grow it you're on your own!!!!
