I'm currently trying to sprout both of the above seeds, and I wondered how long should they take to sprout?
I've got them covered with clear plastic and on a heating mat to keep warm. I planted them both on the 3rd of this month and there's nothing.
I know I shouldn't have................but I poked around today in a couple pots to see if they had roots or anything, but nothing! The rest I left alone.
The gloriosa seeds have swelled and they're kind of wrinkly and soft, are they supposed to be like that? Are they just really slow? What about the Esperanza? The variety is 'Goldstar'.
Thanks,
Steve
Esperanza and Gloriosa Lily
I don't have any esperanza seeds, but they are sooooooooooo plentiful where I live.....are you sure you wouldn't like for me to ship you in about a month some bareroot ones from gallons? I have a lot of them right now sitting in pots....you are welcome to them.....it is cold (as in the high 30's and 40's) and they just need to green up a bit.....This is one of our favorite plants in zone 9....they turn into trees down here....absolutely beautiful in bloom about 10 months out of the year....
Thanks alot for the offer Betty, thats very nice! For now though, I'll just try and sprout what I've got.
By the time I'm done buying seeds this year, I probably won't have any room left!
Thanks,
Steve
SW, I don't know how long esperanza (aka tecoma) takes, but I understand they germinate easily. However, you are in canada, so that along might lengthen the process. Best wishes for success. Don't know about gloriosas.
Thanks for your reply Vossner. I guess I'll just wait and see.
I went back and took another look at my gloriosa's and the soft wrinkly part of the seed can be peeled off revealing a very hard inner 'seed' is this hard thing the actual seed? I've heard before about seeds being 'peeled' so is that what I'm supposed to do? Please Help!
Steven
