OT - Brrrrrrr....

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

We're under a blizzard warning - through tomorrow. The wind is unbelieveable! Here's the view from my front door - can you see the drift and the ornamental grasses blowing over? Eat your heart out, all you in Arizona and Hawaii!! Yea, right - LOL!!

Here's another for perspective - it's been snowing since last night - sleet and ice underneath all this stuff. Like I said, brrrrrr!! Fortunately, no work for DH or I (no way to make it into town in this!), and none of my daughters had to go in either - so all are safe and warm. Karen

This time, the babies are all safe and warm - AND, this time, we have a generator ready to go - just in case!!

I like the 3rd picture, Karen...they must be warm and cozy!!! We keep seeing on the news the nasty wx happening over there and feel SO lucky!!!

Stay warm and safe!

Some of these things are not like the other - can you find the different one?? Gizmo wanted her picture taken with the hoyas - guess she's feeling like I'm spending too much time on things other than her....how like a cat!!!

Is that a Crinum in the back?

Gizmo is lovely!!!

Carol - that's a baby spider plant. When DH and I moved into our previous home (where we lived for 17 years), this plant was in the house - left to die by the previous owners. We nursed it back to health. Brought it out to this new house, and it got knocked over, and run over, when we put on the addition (some people apparantly don't care about plants). I was able to save this little start - so it gets to live with my hoyas!

dmichael - my Gizmo is a she - she's 10, and our St. Bernard and chocolate lab are TERRIFIED of her - she rules the roost!!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Excellent photos - I can feel the wind and cold just looking at them! We were 'sposed to have a "winter storm" here - got 2 mm of frozen snow and now nothing! :-) Kind of disappointed, I love winter storms!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

The only winter storm watch that we are under is a tornado watch until midnight!!

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Oh my goodness Sistah K that's just amazing! Keep warm and safe. I guess you don't want to hear what our temp is today.......63!

Blessings,
Sistah A

Karen: Love your photo's! I would love to visit somewhere where it snows sometime .... it's been a long time since I've seen snow. I just wouldn't want to drive in it! I would have to have a place with a nice Wood Burning Fireplace so I could sit by a cozy fire and gaze out the window at the Snowy Scenery.

We hit 78 here in Central Florida today, but Saturday morning it's gonna be 29 degrees!! I sure was hoping y'all Northerner's would keep that cold up there where it belongs! LOL. If it has to get that cold, at least we should have a bit of snow with the cold temperature's, right? We have a Fireplace that doesn't get much use, but I'm sure Saturday a.m. I will be having a nice roaring fire going! I just need to get busy and move all my plants from the hearth and mantle!

Love Miss"Gizmo" .... and Mr. "Gizmo" too! Soooo cute! My DH and I have 4 cats in our family. Had 5, but one had health problems and had to be euthanized a few months ago. We miss having a dog or two also .... someday, though. Here's a photo of one of our cats "Miss Princess" in one of her favorite spots .... she's a plant lover too!

Carol - Gizmo says she knows she's lovely, but thanks anyway!

Sistah A and dmichael - Highs in the 60's???? Man, I think that's what I'll dream about tonight!!

Lin and Becky - how's this for you? You're welcome to come on over and visit!! This is where I've been all day!!

Karen, I know it isn't much comfort, but those photos of your yard are beautiful. Looks like a movie set!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Awesome! I is there! :-)

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Mark!! That was nice!
Make your way through this, Becky, and there's a hot chocolate with your name on it! Only problem - all the roads are closed in the county!!

Geeze, I'd come visit just to hang out on that BEAUTIFUL super-shiny hard-wood floor you got (OK, and the fireplace).
Lovely!!

Karen...I remember those days (I was born in Northern Indiana and didn't move out here until I was 27).
However, your cozy fire and room looks delightful and your plants look perfectly warm and happy.
Is that a plant above the fireplace? Doesn't it get too hot there? Also...looks like a TV screen above it?
Love that floor too. The way the fire reflects in it makes it look like a Christmas card.

Plantlady... your cat looks right at home in that tropical looking room. Sure a contrast from wintery scene at Karen's.

:) I like that Carol.

Aftermath - DH braved below zero temps to take pics (silly man!) This is our driveway - drifts are 4 ft. - no work today!!!! YIPPPEEE!!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

And the house - hard to get a perspective, but the drifts here are over 4 ft. - again, brrrrrr!!! Carol - I'll take your rain! And Lin - forget the hot chocolate and winter storm here - I'm headed for your beautiful room and some iced tea!! Karen

Marcy - you were smart to move!!!!

Oh Karen, it is soooo pretty to look at .... and If you came down here the next few days, it would have to be HOT Tea! :) We are getting Winter Temps the next day or two. No Snow though! We actually had Flurries .... actually Snow Flakes falling at Thanksgiving! That was our first cold snap. I remember back in the 80's we had a really cold winter and we had taken our niece and nephew to a movie on Christmas Day @ 7:00 in the evening and when we came out of the movie, the locks on the car door were frozen! Hubby finally got the passenger door open, we all climbed in and the passenger door wouldn't close because it was frozen again! So, we drove the few blocks home with me holding the door closed! Yeah, this may be Florida, but we do get cold here at times. We are going to be @ 28 on Saturday morning ... I know my huge Shefflera's in the back yard will be mush. Here's a before the cold photo now, of one of the Shef's taller than the screen pool enclosure. If we get a hard freeze, I will take an after photo and post them next week! They have frozen down before, but always come back in spring!

If I made my way through that snow I'd need more than "just" hot chocolate - hehe

It's beautiful - I love the "day after" a storm, everything looks clean and serene!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Becky - if you make your way through this snow, I promise something better to drink than hot chocolate!

Lin - that looks like one beautiful - and large! - screened in porch!! How beautiful - I need more pictures of warm, beautiful places for inspiration to hold on until spring - PLEASE????!!!!!!

Thought I'd start my flower seeds out at the greenhouse today - more confident with the new generator. Went out to turn on the furnace and get it warm - a little bit of snow out there!!

Oh Karen :( It is lovely to look at but enough is enough huh? Hang in there spring and summer are comming. If it makes you feel any better, we had snow flurries the a past two days and it is only about 40 outside. The one good thing about it is the snow melts very fast here, ya have to look really quick.

It's 75 degrees and sunny here in Central Florida today! Beautiful day, despite the wind. But, it won't be lasting long. The weather folks are still predicting a low of @ 28 degrees for us Friday Night/Saturday Morning ... it should meet or break our record low for that day!

Here's a photo to give you some hope for Spring to come! These are some Red Penta's still going strong in my backyard .... by next week they will probably be toast! But, should re-sprout once the weather warms up again!

Here's another photo ... more Red Penta's

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Nice, Lin! I've got the picture up of the knock out roses - think I'll go make some tea and dream of spring to come!! Beautiful garden!

(Zone 1)

Thank you! With the weird weather we've been having, some of my garden plants think it's already spring! I have a huge Gardenia bush that has been putting out a few blooms here and there the past few months! And, it doesn't usually bloom until May! And, we still have Hibiscus blooming, which is not unusual and some other assorted flowers! In some areas of Florida, things bloom continuously year round!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Wow - talk about diversified country - snow and blooming roses! :-) We finally got some winter here as well, not a lot of snow yesterday - however - ICE is covering all of VA! You know it is bad when my 70 something lb dog can walk on the snow without falling through! :-) They are NOT liking this!
I woke up this morning to this strange hammering sound - sounded like someone was building something in our neighborhood - turned out it was the guys around us trying to de-ice their cars! LOL

I am thinking of scrapping my idea of driving to IL, I am heading south instead! :-) Cold drinks anyone?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Oh dear...how you guys handle it!!!! with such a sense of humor!!!

I really admire your tenacity....but if you ALL moved here the earth would tilt!!!!

With great admiration and respect...

Carol

(Zone 1)

Cute Carol! But, probably soooo true! What made you decide to move to Hawaii, or are you from there?

I have had a chance over the past ten years to go there, but the thought of being on an airplane for more than 2 hours stopped me! LOL. And, my DH teaches at an Aeronautical University!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

HA HA. We moved here to retire somewhere gentle where the weather was mild, traffic not gagging and no malls everyother block. Both of us hate to shop and here I only need/wear boots, sandals or good sandals. We wake up to birds, not traffic. AND, we could afford it!!! Prices were very reasonable then. They still are.

Carol
