My DH wanted to know why I wanted a male peacock.I told him several reasons.Well he just went after a hawk trying to grab one of DH's best laying hens.I heard him yelling and he was right on the hawk.I wish I had a picture.I have DH's hens and roosters back in the safety of the coop, and my proud Boy Peacock is walking the yard..He would make a good CO......HD
my Male peacock just saved one of my DH's chickens.
What sort of care do you need to give peacocks? Do they go inside at night like chickens and ducks? Do they
'forage'? I know they can fly - is there any tendency for them to take off? Tell me what all they entail.
Thanks,
Gwen
And feel free to post photos!
Peacocks forage so well they will strip your garden and any freshly planted annuals down to the nubs in no time! There was a feral band of peacocks around my cottage when I lived on the central California coast. They would roost on tree branches at night, and sometimes on the flat part of my roof. We had at least 6 peacocks, a few more peahens, lots of pea-teens and pea-chicks. They would lay down in a circle around my golden retriever when he would nap on the lawn. LOL! I did need to put sturdy cages around the garden and all the summer flowers. Netting won't keep them out. They are very strong birds and will rip the netting out in no time.
There is a picture of a almost all white peacock here somewhere and its beautiful. I don't know how to do a search but I love peacocks. My nephew has quite a few.
