Rootdoctor sent me a sang plant a couple years ago, said it was too hot where he lived for it to bloom. The first summer it didn't do a thing, so before I took it out of the greenhouse this past spring I whacked it back and told it "live or die, but do SOMETHING". Well, it lived but didn't do anything. A couple weeks ago in the greenhouse, i happened to just look at it in passing and it had 2 buds!!!!!! This is what I found today! Thanks, Root!!!! :>)
A sang bloom
Congratulations. I had one for two years and finaly tossed it, it didn't even grow very good, nice to see someone actualy got one to bloom.
What a wonderful surprise to find this flower in your gh. I'll keep my fingers crossed the two flowers hang on and you get to enjoy to the fullest. Such a rare treat!

Are you going to save the Pollen? Paul
Don't know squat about how to save pollen or what to do with it after I'd save it. Any suggestions, anyone? There IS another bud...............and if this one is already open, I'm assuming it is too late to save pollen anyway?
That is too cool Anna! The pollen won't do much for you, I wouldn't think because it won't work on the usual brugs. If I were you I would break off a pollen laden anther and rub it on the stigma. Sangs are self fertile. Then you may get a seed pod that takes about 9 months to ripen.
Well, I can do that. The athers are loaded. I breed my own cows, guess I can do the same with a brug. Won't be nearly as messy, and I can actually SEE what I am doing. LOLOLOL
Kell, I have to tell you, I took a plant of Susanne to the Garden Expo this past Friday, Sat, and Sunday for display in my booth. The reason I took it was because it had 1 bloom. If I'd have had a dime for everyone that stopped, went and gently picked up the bloom and looked at its "innards" I'd be rich! Many people got a course in Brugmansia 101, but you'd be surprised at all that came by and said "Oh, look a datura". So, of course, another lesson for the uninformed. :>) It was only 1 bloom, but it was huge. And, I was quick to give credit to my wonderful online friend in CA that sent me cuttings when she hacked hers back.
LOL Anna. This will be a piece of cake then for you. LOL So tell us about your booth. Where you selling plants or letting people know you had space in a huge GH to rent?
I am so glad you got Susanne growing so well. It is a special brug for sure. How are your gunnera doing? I bet you are doing much better than I have. I killed mine. I only got it because you and Chele were so hot for it. And now I have to go get another to prove I can keep it alive. LOL Shoot!
WEll, the deed is done.............guess I'll have to see if I get a pod at some point in time. How soon will I see evidence, if my pollination was successful?
The gunnies are still alive and well. Really need to transplant into larger pots. I purchased another one locally this past summer.........they had them in the watergarden section. Duh!!!!!!! Wish I'd have know that.
My booth was for drumming up overwintering business. Also would really like to get a tropical plant rental for special occasions going too. I have so many big plants I'd like to have them "pay their way", if you know what I mean. This would be for parties, receptions, etc. And, no, I'm not retail. I don't want to deal with that aspect of it. I cannot compete with WalMart and I don't want to even try.
