Heres a few of my favorites, so I don't have names for. I have about 300+ seeds just about ready to plants so otta get something nice this year, I feel like a honeybee, pollinatin everything! LOLanyway on with the show...This one is John Bender, I love the red stems and yellow foliage.
Mo crotons, mo crotons mo crotons!
OH Dale...I would LOVE some of that first one you put up...In Miami. BEAUTIFUL.
I'd be runnin around the neighborhood with a sharp pair of shears and a garbage bag. :-)
Dale, snip snip!! :-)
Dale i can envision a lexicon of crotons with color pics of mature leaf, laid next to an immature leaf,by a small branch and finally a full bush photo to help people identify their crotons.
only a few of mine are big enough to air layer.
the curly one looks like mammey
'Round here...you drive down the street....all of a sudden a croton you haven't seen before. Screech go the brakes....up the driveway. Knock on the door...'Oh sure, take what you want, no worries'.
It is SO much easier to airlayer them, I swear!!! Cuttings are dicey for me but airlayers take immediately and are no fuss.
Carol
Carol, I have a suggestion to improve the chances of cuttings of croton taking root that works well for me. Before you put them into water take a knife or sharp blade and scrap away a small amount of bark on the stem. This will expose the cambium, that is where the roots will form. I cut away about 50% of the bark on two sides of the bottom 1" or there abouts. I went from having 20% of my cutting root to about 90%.
OH...thanks for that!!!! Will give it a try!
Beautiful show, thanks Kyle and Dale
Candela your plant is called "Stop light"
Oh my, no idea there were so many beauties! Thanks to all for the lovely pictures. I do hope you'll consider adding them to plant files.
Sigh... now I want to move south, further south....
