AlohaHoya,

If I am ever at that garden (It was the Nat'l Orchid Society HDQ's) I might get one. I only go down to Miami area about once every couple years. It is over 5 hours from here, not exactly a day trip.

Dale i can envision a lexicon of crotons with color pics of mature leaf, laid next to an immature leaf,by a small branch and finally a full bush photo to help people identify their crotons.

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

Kyle, do you air layer yours? At one of the societies meetings Ron (the president) showed us how, very easy and successful.

only a few of mine are big enough to air layer.

Time for bed, I am double posting.

Last one for today. This is Mamey with a sport coming out. Mamey is so unstable, genetically, that it has more sports than any other croton. There is a display of the sports of Mamey in Sarasota, I haven't found it yet, but, I will.

'Round here...you drive down the street....all of a sudden a croton you haven't seen before. Screech go the brakes....up the driveway. Knock on the door...'Oh sure, take what you want, no worries'.

It is SO much easier to airlayer them, I swear!!! Cuttings are dicey for me but airlayers take immediately and are no fuss.

Carol, I have a suggestion to improve the chances of cuttings of croton taking root that works well for me. Before you put them into water take a knife or sharp blade and scrap away a small amount of bark on the stem. This will expose the cambium, that is where the roots will form. I cut away about 50% of the bark on two sides of the bottom 1" or there abouts. I went from having 20% of my cutting root to about 90%.
