Making your own soil mix

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I promise I have tried searching for this before asking. I am sure it is on here somewhere, but I can't find it so I am going to ask... What are the amounts of ingredients to make an African Violet soil?

I just potted up some last night.....the containers came from www.charleysgreenhouses.com....it said 1/3 perlite, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 african potting soil. My friend I was doing it for thought it seemed too light and fluffy.....just followed those directions, but Allison from Florida would certainly know.

that's a good basic mix recommended by a lot of experts. You can vary it according to your conditions, watering habits/system, and plants. Some people add a bit of water crystals to hold more water without getting boggy. Others take out the vermiculite because it holds too much water. Some add horticultural coir (must be salt free) because dry coir absorbs water better than dry peat. Some add bone meal for the streps and chiritas. And so on.

I mixed some of this up the other day to report AVs and I loved working with it. Nice and light and watered and drained well.

Thank you all for your rapid responses! I will mix some up as soon as I can find vermiculite.
