seeds how long to germinate

New Port Richey, FL(Zone 9b)

I planted some brugs seed about 10 days ago and placed in sunny window and have misted so as not to let the soil dry out .Do you think they will germinate, and when should I see anything? A virgin to Brugs.

well, it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months depending on several factors:

*how old the seed is
*whether the seed was soaked and or peeled first
*temps - around 70deg is best; over 80 is bad
*moisture level in the soil and humidity.

Probably simplest method for beginners is to press seeds into damp soil starting mix; cover container with a plastic bag; sit in a sunny window and wait. If your lucky..it may only take a few weeks..

Thank you Diane.

Putting them in a sunny window, in a bag, in florida might NOT be a good idea. Even the winter sun in florida gets too hot at times and you are more likely to cook the seeds than germinate them. Like Diane said over 80 degrees is bad. I would germinate in a bag under artificial lights. You can get a complete grow light flourescent fixture (with bulb) at walmart for $10. Light should be about 12 inches above the seed container.

Mine took a little over three weeks to germinate in a greenhouse with night temps at 62f and day temps in the eighties. This is my first attempt at growing brug from seed as well anyone know if they will bloom the first year from seed or not?

They will bloom anywhere between about 5 months and 2 years from seed, depending partly on how you grow then and partly on the variety. Its not always possible to predict how long.
