Erwin, TN(Zone 7a)

I am having a hard time telling Xanths from Colocasias esculenta, --I ordered a Xanth atroviren from tropilab and some others,- all the others are xanths as ordered, --but if this is a Xanth, how can it have a leaf like the one in the picture?? any one out there who knows a lot about plant ID, --Michael

I'm certainly no expert, but I thought Xanthosomas had a rim around the edge of the leaf.

This photo of X. Lime Zinger shows the rim.

That is not a Xanthosoma but a Colocasia. You are right Xanthosoma will have a vein that runs around the rim of the leaf. Also the lobes in the back will be cut all the way down to the stem creating more of a arrowhead look to the leaf. In most cases the sap will be white. Xanthosomas and Syngoniums are very closely releated and you can use all the samethings to tell a Syngonium from a Philodendron.

Now I need to identify the Variety of Taro --this should be fun, --anyone want to help??? [ I assume that it is Taro, --and not some exemption to all the rules for ID], --Michael
