Wanted Stuttgart Canna

I would love to trade for a stuttgart canna rhizome. Does anyone have one to trade?

I agree with you that the Stuttgart is beautiful. I have been trying to keep one going for three years now in two separate gardens. Bad luck. Too cool and cloudy last year. I found out recently the brown dead spots that formed of the edges of the leaf were not my fault. It is a genetic defect. So sad. I hope they can breed it out so I can try again. Jessamine

I did have one a couple of years ago and it was so hard to keep it growing that I gave it away to someone. I can't remember who.

I don't know about Stuttgart/Pretoria, but I grow the Tropicanna/Phaison and let me tell you, in these frost-free zones plenty of people would give them away! They are an incredibly vigorous and aggressive hybrid that grows fast. In fact I just shovel-pruned a clump I planted last year. It'll take over the entire bed if I let it alone.

You would probably have to grow them in containers and move them indoors as suitable. Even in coastal Northern CA, where I live there are only 3-7 days of mild frost per year, they get quite raggedly during the winter months.

They love heat and humidity, but Tropicanna actually needs some shade to do well. Many people don't realize that.

i've been lusting after stuttgart, but I read somewhere in my google travels that it reverts. anybody had this experience?

I purchased 5 from Brent and Becky's bulbs and they were huge. I have the new catalog and the price is 1 for $6 or 5 for $26.
