Can you cut back spindly Plumeria?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't know anything about Plumerias...my cousin in Houston called to ask if she can cut hers back? Thanks DG experts....

Sue - there are two things to do with a leggy plant:

you can self-graft the top back on to the bottom, and root the middle section.
Or you can take the top cutting and root that.
The bottom section will then sprout new branches on some of the old leaf scars.

You are one good lady!!! thanks so much...

I wouldn't prune anything this time of year. I would wait until the spring. There are some good threads on pruning in the FAQ's Sticky Thread if you are interested in forwarding them to your cousin.

Better yet, ask your cousin to subscribe to Dave's Garden so we can show her the proper way to prune!
