bare cuttings in gh

Tucson, AZ

has anyone ever placed bare cuttings in the gh or another humid locale? i don't want to pot them up right now. however, i don't want to leave them in the house where they will dessicate.

Dete, why not stick the whole bunch, however many there are, in the greenhouse in a large tub with about an inch or two of potting medium or even just plan sand or perlite. They may surprise you by rooting.
This is my proven method for rooting anyway and I have successfully rooted appr. 50 cuttings over the winter inFlorida (admittedly not much of a winter) this way.

Dete, I have done that -- just laid them in the greenhouse, but what Hetty is suggesting works well too. I have just put an inch or so of potting soil at the bottom of a pot and stacked them all upright. Right now, I'm group rooting a bunch of center cuts like that. They are not attractive because they are center cuts, but they can be used for grafting purposes later.

thanks for the adivce hetty. i might try the gang rooting. i usually don't have lots to root like you ladies, so i just pot each one individually.

clare what happened when you just laid them in the gh?

Don't know about a greenhouse, but I have two I dug up in Oct that are laying bareroot (all soil was rinsed off) in a pan in the basement with no shriveling whatsoever. The basement probably never gets any cooler than 55 but can get very warm if the outdoor temps are up.

Dete, they just sit there, doing nothing, until I pot them up. They usually get wet when I water as I just spray the group, and the humidity keeps them green and plump.
