Can you please tell me if it is to early or not to plant sweet peas, I have them started in the house and would like to know when it would be ok to put out side. Also if any one knows anything about the climbing shell plant if it does good. Thanks so much I am in Poteet
Sweet Peas
Normally peas can take frost, but I have seen some in our area get killed by the freezes we have had lately.
I think you are a warmer zone than me, but it has been a weird year down there too, so you never know.
However, if you plant them too late, it will probably get too hot for them, so if you really want them, I would go ahead and take a chance.

Feb 14th was the "late" date for planting I was given...
Dec 25th outside was the early.
This year’s weather has been real screwy for growing Sweet Peas. There are many different opinions on when to plant S.P.'s in Texas. Ideally for North Texas I would plant them around Thanksgiving. They prefer a temperature around 55f to germinate. Usually they can take our cold. Then depending on the variety they will bloom in early spring. This year I lost a few when it went quickly from warm to cold. Interestingly those that survived on suffered minimal damage when the temperatures dropped to the low twenties. They can take cold It's heat that gets them.
Thank ya'll so much they will be going into the garden today.
What variety are they?
Hi in Poteet, texas.........I am down the road in Taft. I soaked my seeds overnight back in November and started right in the big pots....they germinated fine and are getting ready to bloom. That hard freeze we had didn't even make them blink...Go ahead and get them in the ground....never let them dry out...I bought container or window box sweet peas this year from www.reneesgardens.com. I am happy so far.

My favorite cousin in the world grew up in Skidmore!!!
Thank ya'll they went into the ground and I hope will do well but if not I will make sure that I plant the seeds in the ground in November. I do do remember growing up in Pa having them all over the place and would just love to bring them in the house. I have planted the Heirlooms Captain of the Blues and Eckford's finest Mix along with a Patio Mix it says they are a dwarf bush.
two weeks ago, I put Empress of India (?) soaking in warm water overnight....forgot all about them until 5 days later....went ahead and planted....when I didn't see anything coming up in the pot, I just said, "OH WELL"......yesterday look what happened...so we will be planting about the same time on these.
I thought empress of India was nastursium?
