Brugmansia Sweetheart

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

his is my first bloom on Sweetheart. Sweetheart is an Alice Harris cross of Sunset x Golden Lady. The leaves are quite beautiful. Large and very fuzzy. It looks very much at home in a tropical garden. I have a few more buds on her but I would really like to see how she will look in full flush.

Pretty one!

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Very pretty. Nice clean white. I think white always stands out in a garden. Does she have a nice fragrance?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

So cute Gary! I like that one cause it's so rare. What is the fragrance like? Congrats.. blooms right now are such a treat.. online or not.. it's just so cold and ucky..

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

She has a wonderful fragrance. Although it was raining last night I had to go out there and stick my nose in the blossom.
Beautiful, creamy fragrance. Won't be able to tell just how strong until the winds die down a bit....
Nicely shaped flower, thick corolla and wonderful fragrance...I'll hold onto her for a while for sure.

Calhoun, KY(Zone 6b)

Your 'Sweetheart' is beautiful Gary...
I like ....
Each time I see another brug my list of wants gets larger...LOL
Peggy

...Gee, Gary...I thought you were at my door delivering a Brug and calling my name.
Same to you big boy. :-)

It's kind of funny having Sweetheart bloom so close to Valentines Day

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Very pretty, Gary. You can send us all one for Valentine's. LOL

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 6b)

Very nice and petite Gary!

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

that is very pretty and petite. I like the whites because they can look so elegant.

My Golden Lady was a small bush last year and only put out 2 small flushes. In neither flush, did the second skirt drop down. Is this tyical of Golden Lady? I not that familiar with Brug genetics so maybe some can answer the following question. If Golden Lady is used in a cross with a single Brug, and the cross has a double flower, would you expect the second skirt to stay close to the first? Anyone have any good recommended books or articles with this kind of information?

Sweetheart is very pretty. She has some features I like: a calyx that covers the corolla, smell and fuzzy leaves. I like Brugs with a good fragrance. Hope she's a keeper.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I like it Gary!!!!!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Gary, thanks for posting this picture. I too have this one growing this year, but it won't bloom until late summer or Fall for me. This gives me something to really look forward to .

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Love those white doubles. Thanks for sharing (edited to say) the pictures. I didn't want people to think you had sent me a cutting cause then they would be after you big time. lol

Gary, very pretty!

Gary, your 'Sweetheart' looks just lovely. I bet she takes a lot of her fragrance from Golden Lady. Although I have never had the chance to smell Golden Lady, I hear that she is very fragrant.

Also, the bloom reminds me a lot of 'Gemini', if I can find a pic of her I'll post it here in your thread if you don't care.

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

I don't have Golden Lady so I have nothing to compare her to.....

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 6b)

I will have to check JT's site for this one!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

IMO, the bloom does look a lot like Golden Lady.. (Just from pics) The reason I like Sweetheart is cause she is a rare green seedling from a Variegated Brug! Right? Wouldn't that just take the cake to not only get a green, but a double?

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Golden lady is one of my faves , this is a nice brug Gary.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

'Sweetheart' does not look like 'Golden Lady' or 'Gemini'.
Grown beside the other, they are not alike.
Also, 'Sweetheart' will turn deep orange in cooler weather.
Thanks.

Very nice, love the classic whites. Congrats Gary and Alice.

Yours is a beauty too, burgele.

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

All the pictures I have seen of sweetheart have not dropped their skirts so severely. Personally i do not like the dropped skirts. I prefer doubles with their skirts either stuffed or slightly dropped...If she blooms with too many dropped skirts i will probably pass on her....

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

You can pass her on here Gary! LOL

Dunedin, FL

Well Gary, it is time for an update on my SWEETHEART, she is blooming right now for the past 6 days , do you like her any better now? I love her and the change in color, as you can see she has both type of skirts on the same plant. You never showed how your following flowers turned out.

burgele,
Your Sweetheart is beautiful. Gary, if you don't like her shirt drop, before you dump her, remember you can dump her our way.

I forgot to ask! burgele, what is her fragrance like?

I had two more blooms on her. Both of them with stuff skirts :}. I hit both of them with pollen. She is now sitting with two seed pods. Sweetheart x MM and Sweetheart x Rubiline(Rubirosa?). Let's see if she has what it takes to throw some pink doubles!

A variegated Double Pink.... THAT's what we need now! Wouldn't that be cool?
