Last year an old, local farmer in a very small North Carolina town gave me a tomato plant he grew from seed from tomatos his family had called "Watermelon" variety of tomatos for more than 50 years. THIS IS NOT the beefsteak watermelon that we are all familiar with. The plant was huge with extremely heavy yields of tomatos that started out looking like bowling pins. They wound up about 6 inches long and were each about 5-6 inches around at the bottom, narrow on top. Very sweet, low acid, few seeds, thin skin and pink. I painstakingly saved seeds and will send 5 to anyone that wants to try them. I'm sorry folks, I cannot promise they will grow but I sure hope they do since this is something I want to grow year after year. If you grow them and know of another name other than watermelon, I would love to know that too!
I have photos from last year and will email them to anyone interested. MariaJacobs@Earthlink.net
I would like to get a few seeds for Big Zac, Mortgage Lifter, Porterhouse (Burpee's new one) or anything else that is large and interesting.
Thanks,

Hi, Maria!
I received my seeds on Friday - I am so looking forward to growing you Sherrill's Ford Watermelon tomato. If it looks like yours did, and tastes as good as it looks. Oh, my! Oh, yum!!!
