This is the hoya that I bought from Paul Shirley as H. Phyllura.
This is probably my favorite as far as leaves go right now. This was only a two node cutting which I cut in half and made two seperate cuttings of. Both rooted and each has begun to make a little vine.
You can see one in the photo. The second one is almsot at ground level. The leaves are very hard and as you can see from the pic the veins are very pronounced. I cant wait to see what a full basket of this baby is gonna look like!!! This is one that I would grow just for the leaves alone.

H. phyllura
Really cool leaves, they are similiar to the leaves on my H. aff clemensiorum. I'll take a picture and post it tomorrow. H. phyllura has a really cool flower, it is a bi-color like the finlaysonii, I can't remember where I found a picture of it, I will have to go looking.
Oh no, another hoya to envy! Nice, dmichael!
True the leaves are outstanding, but i'm not so sure that this is actulally H. phyllura.
My guess is sp. 'Abas'. I got a nice cutting from a forum member and is does resemble that one. Stiff leaves, raised viens DARK green, stems light tan with LOTS of little nubbies (I believe that's the tech. term for them... :~) If it is, use the beer fert on it. Mine has new leaves and stems since I started using it and there was no new growth befor I started using it.
MsKitty, what do you think?
God bless, -joanne
Joanne,
H. sp. Abas is what I was thinking also. Does the hoya indentity crisis ever end!!!!!!
As for the beer fertilizer,I have been using it since the original posting of the recipe and have had amazing results. My hoyas have grown all winter long and are still growing. I guess I should lay off the "juice" for a while and give them a rest.
I just hope that all of the fertilizing will pay off with tons of blooms.

You know, it really looks like so many of the finlaysonii aff's and ssp's. The leaves look very similar to both my sp. 'Abas' and cv. 'Jennifer.' Next time you come to Eugene, Joanne, I wanna buy some of that beer fert off of you - if you have extra. I don't have space to keep all of the ingredients in this tiny apartment. I really like how it works for the plants.
Ann
Joanne, Dmichael,
Gotta tell you, the beer fertilizer is the best!! I have no less than 22 brand new peduncles loaded with buds on the Hoya polystachya that I bought from Mel during the green house cleaning. Not real warm here, but lots of bright blue sky, and tons of light reflected off the snow helps, but I had that last winter, with out all of the potential blooms!!!
Ann, I just keep the ingredients under my kitchen sink. I have probably gone through 10 batches of the fertilizer, since last May when I started using it, and still have my original ingredients. Except of course for the beer, but a 24 + 4 pack of Sam Adams is regularly on my Sam's Club shopping list, so I get my share in the fertilizer. Economically, I don't think that fertilizer can get any cheaper than this recipe.

Tomorrow I will start another thread about the fert. with pictures so everyone who is happy with it take some photos of your new growth and blooms!
Ann, I will mix you up a batch again and bring it down. I need to pick up more clay this week so I will give you a call.
dmichael, I love this stuff. It is great on the hoya but even better on the cactus and suculents.
-God bless, -joanne
OK, what have I missed about the beer fertilizer? Is there an old thread I need to find?
Joanne ,
I remember reading that the beer fert was great for C&S. This time of year though I only water my cactus plants about once a month if that. When the weather warms up i'll begin watering them with this stuff also.
