Where do you find your coin envelopes?

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

I went out hunting kraft/coin envelopes today while in town and Office Depot didn't have the smaller size, school supply didn't carry them and neither does Wal-Mart...So I figured ok no biggie I'll just order them online...Well ok BIGGIE! They want almost as much for shipping ((9.00) as they do per 500 envelopes. Now I don't mind a little shipping since I don't have to pay tax but jeez wiz that's a bit much..so where do ya'll find yours?

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I think I got mine at Office Depot or Staples or one of those office supply places....

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Have you tried Michaels, the crafts store? I buy a few garden items there, especially silica gel and very small ziploc bags. They might also carry small envelopes.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Dang....and I was right next door to Michael's...I'll try again next weekend. Thanks Johnsonjrbm wouldn't have thought of them.

Janet OD here (well in Beaumont) Only carried the larger size it was I'd say about 4x6, didn't even have a spot on the shelf for the smaller size anymore. LOL and we don't have a Staples...I'm learning to order lots online living in this neck of the woods

North Augusta, ON

I use the little tiny plastic zip lock bags. Got them in the craft department at walmart...100 for 2.97 ( Canadian..so it would be cheaper for you) They hold seeds nicely, lock closed and fit in an envelope with no problem. I guess they are used for jewelry.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I get my little ziploc seed baggies in the craft dept. at WalMart... but sometimes the little glassine or paper coin envelopes are better for teeny seeds (the kind that static themselves tightly to the sides of plastic baggies) or for seeds that may not be completely dry & would get moldy in a plastic bag.

North Augusta, ON

uh oh...going to check my seeds now

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Yes, that is why you need the manila envelopes. If there is any moisture in the seeds they will mold in the plastics.

I will check Michaels Monday also. I cannot believe nobody carries them. The glasine I believe are for stamp collectors. plastics for jewelry. I am sure there are a lot of other things that can be put in them. But, where are the manilas?

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Our office depot had them but they are expensive. 500 cost 15.00 and they are of heavy manila. I think there are some white envelopes that are less expensive and more pliable on ebay. I have the plastic bags but would rather have paper envelopes.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Sorry I think that was less than 500 for that much.

Dowagiac, MI

I ordered mine from Medical Arts Press 1-800-328-2179. They were cheap. They are called "pill envelopes"
I purchase a number of items from this company, they are easy to work with, and shipping is reasonable.
They have a website as well, I think, but I get their printed catalog at work and just called in my order.

I just pulled up my invoice. Item Number 320-34002, box of 500. 2 1/2 X 4 1/4 plain white pill envelopes, 24 lb stock paper 23.49. I am pretty sure, if you request a catalog, there is a coupon in there for first time purchasers to get 30% off their initial order.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

I get the manila coin envelopes at Staples, the small plastic ones at Walmart - 99 cents for a hundred, then I make my own from wax paper and tape.

Orlando, FL

I got mine from Office depot also. They were about 9 dollars for 500 and that was a yr ago. may have gone up by now. If someone wants them and will pay me for the shipping and the cost I will get you some. i checked the box and it dont say how much the box weights but does list a web site www.columbianEnvelopes.com. I use the plastic zip locks bags that I get at a bead store, but my favorite way to store seeds is in origami envelopes that I make out of waxed paper. It breaths and I like to have something to do with my hands while watching TV. Here is a link to the envelope I use. A 6" square is just the right size. I tape them closed and label them by writing on a address label used for computer print out labels. If I am doing a lot at once I type them up and print them on the computer.

If you don't like the directions on this page just google origami envelopes and you will find many others.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Most Dollar Stores (in our area), such as 'Everything's A Dollar' or 'Deals', has the coin envelopes.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

I've checked all our dollar trees and EAdollar no coin envelopes.
BLPender thanks for that site Those are exactly what I am looking for. I have been in several seed swaps that were themed and had to make my on envelopes. Now I can take these white ones dress them up a little and send them out without a whole lot of hassle. I did get a good deal on ebay with the clear bag 2x2 with a white bar to write on. I like to slip these inside the paper envelopes for seed swaps. Of course these are seeds that have had plenty time to dry.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Thanks BLP I'll check into that...I use the plastic for myself for seeds that I know I'll use up within a season, but I hate to trade seeds and send them out in plastic...hence the need.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

How many do you need Araness? I got a couple hundred of the white coin envelopes can let ya have. I had ordere d white cuz I thought it looked prettier to writ e on than the brown ones.

If you'd like some dmail me.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the offer starlight but I'll look next weekend when I go back to town at Micheals, pretty sure they will have them I just wasn't thinking kraft when I was looking.

My sister from Auburn should be coming out this way in a few weeks...lol want a few seedlings if she comes?

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Oh, I hope the weather holds good and she can get that way to visit you. If she don't mind the hauling back, would some seedlings. Let me know if there something special you want and I will try and get it and send it with her to you.

LOL.. went past Dr. Brown's class and he was in their singing away and threatening the pop quiz man still. Gotta love that man.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Wouldn't think she would mind at all. She and my BIL are coming out this way to bring the haul from the kids wedding in September. Wonder if I get to grab a few of those goodies myself as they got a hice haul! BIL owns a storage and Uhaul place among other things in Auburn so they will probably take the U-Haul back with them...perfect place for a plact of seedlings.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Look at coin companies. I order from Littleton Coin, I don't remember the price, but I have used them for a couple of years. They are prompt too with the shipping. Good luck.

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 4b)

I have gotten the paper coin envelopes at a company that sells paper and envelops etc. for stamp art. They carry a lot of paper items including the coin envelopes. I got a whole handful of free plastic ones at a place that sells store display items. It is a fun place to go because the display items are used and from all sorts of stores. Huge paper elephants, pinball machines, lights, whatever a store might have used in a display and doesn't want anymore. That is why he gave me the bags he got them in with something else.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

If anyone is interested in glassine envelopes this site has pretty good price http://www.mdstamp.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=380&zenid=4fd5f58edb931240a129576b3a12d895

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Living in Alaska, I've learned to order by mail and order big, so I've been getting my poly bags from Paper Mart. They've always given me good service, and the price is good when you buy in quantity. If a 1000 is too many, you can always order together or buy a 1000 and use them as trading material for seeds: http://www.papermart.com/templates/15-0-10.htm#GO_15015

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

And they also have glassine bags: http://www.papermart.com/templates/11-0-45.htm#GO_11045

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Thanks, I am using the plastic bags now. I get them at Wal-Mart but they aren't the greatest for seeds. I went to the local office supply place yesterday and she said they could order them and have them by today. I was thrilled till she pulled out the book. They wanted 30.00 bucks for the same box I can get online (with shipping) for 23.00! When I told her no thank you she pushed for me to order after saying no again and her trying her best to get me to let her order them I finally said "No, I can get them online for cheaper than that including shipping" Then she got angry. LOL she's the one who wanted to know...

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Maybe she owned the store?? LOL

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Maybe so but she had to know she was rather costly...I mean she was even 10 bucks over what Office Depot wanted for the next size up envelopes....guess if your the only game in town you get use to charging what you want

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

You're right. If you're the only store in town you might get away with it. Guess it depends on how far the next town is, huh? Anyway, it's her store, she can charge what she wants.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I get mine at the post office........................ packs of 50.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I just bought mine at Michaels. I bought two sizes of the Craft Designer reclosable bags, 1.75"x1.75" and 2"x1.50 sizes of 100pc packages for 1.49 each. I also found pkgs of mini white paper bags for 2.99. These I use to put the enclosed seeds into and decorated for a seed swap. I'm sure I could find them cheaper but I was in the "I want it now" mood.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Yes MR Crocosmia and I love your envelopes. The ones he gets are manila colored but not near as stiff as the coin envelopes. He so graciously gifted me some of his and I really appreciate it. Gotta love him even if he is a bit mischievious.
