A warning (yet again)

I sound like a broken record. I could have never predicted that in 2007 we would still be dealing with problems out of this forum.

We're going to start doing some major housecleaning (read that: bannings) if the people in this forum can't behave themselves. There are plenty of other brug forums out there that you can use for your bickering and fighting, and DG is not the place for that. Don't abuse this forum!

Thank you Dave.

I'd like to ask for some help. A few members have dmailed me with names of people who are at the front of all the problems in this forum. That is a HUGE help to me.

I would like to ask all concerned parties to please dmail me and let me know who is causing trouble. Please give me names when you dmail. I'm going to start banning today.

I've only been posting to the forums for a short time, but I've really enjoyed exchanging information about the various plants I and others love to grow.
That's what is so great about open discussion!
Sure, from time to time, disagreeable things happen. It is the same in life.
I don't suppose that any truly important accomplishments come about unless folks at some time come nose to nose and got a a little spit on each other.
Things eventually settle down, pass and new things come.
I am sure, in hindsight, we've all exhibited behavior we wish we had not at some time or other.
It is probably better to avoid banning anyone, and give folks a chance to shout once in a while, get it out of their system and work toward personal restraint.
We all possess a tremendous power...we can choose to leave the thread for gentler places and leave the disagreeable fellow without an audience.
Sometimes, people need a little solitude and time to calm down.

You must be new here... :)

You couldn't be more wrong. Over half a decade has shown that the same names keep popping up (I'm privy to a lot of information that you may not be). It's amazing to me how long feuds can last and they won't stop by giving them an opportunity to have a shouting match "once in a while".

Ahh, I completely agree!!

Dave

I have received many dmails today and a lot of old memories were rekindled. A few moments ago I took an action that is going to make me very popular with some and very unpopular with others. What I did was program the system so that I can remove the ability of certain members to make posts. 8 members were then added to this system. I may add more members later.

If you find that you cannot post to this forum anymore, then that means that you were one of the 8, and I can only apologize to you and say that I had to do what I did so that we can have peace again in this forum, and it was not a personal judgment against you. When many people separately point you out as a potential problem, I have to act.

Happily, you are welcome to continue to read the threads here, but you simply cannot post to the forum.

I see this as a good alternative to completely banning you from the site, especially considering the fact that I personally like some of the people affected by this ban here. If, however, you begin posting troublesome things in other forums or in private dmails, I will have no choice but to remove you from DG altogether.

Hi All
Well this is my first post even though I have been reading and following different forums for about nine months now. I have learned some things and tried a few ideas new to me. Also, I really apreciated this website, forums and the friendly and generous people that I have been in contact with.

I have, unfortunately, seen some of the issues that are at topic here. If someone has a disagreement with another that is between them and should stay between them. And should not posted for the rest of us to read through.(or to skip over)
In forums such as these we shouldn't have to be policed. But sometimes we do in order to keep the spirit of it going in the right direction. That may not be the most pleasant thing for someone (Dave) to do, but it must be done.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK DAVE!! You have my total support!!!

Kendal

Thanks Kendal.

I just had a thought that I should add an addendum here, to alleviate some potential concerns:

In this matter, I removed members from both sides of this fight. So, don't worry about me playing favorites...

Good job Dave ! I love this place and all my buddies. I have learned so much from so many on so many different subjects! Thank you for trying to maintain harmony and an environment to learn, love and be supportive of each other. God bless you and all you do, Margo

Dave,

Is this problem only on the brug forum? I haven't ever seen bickering on other forums, and only once on the brug forum...but I am fairly new to DG (7 mo) and new to brugs (6 mo) And I don't read EVERY thread. I am just wondering if it is something just among the brug lovers. So many are such generous and helpful people, and I love DG and the brug forum. Thank you for athis website and your patience with all of us!

And they have a scent that is heavenly.
At the time of the pic mine was looking sorta puney. If you are interested in growing a brug just D-mail me and I could send you a rooted cutting. That is when it gets warmer here, it was six degrees below zero this AM.

Other forums have occasional problems, but none of them have the kinds of recurring problems that this forum does. It's too bad, too, as brugs are wonderful plants (I personally have dozens of them).

Giggling at Gary also....nice quiet fella on here :)) God bless you all, Margo

I think the thoughtful operation of the website as a whole is more important than the small number of individuals who always seem to show up in organizations to stir the pot. Sad that you have to do that Dave, for what its worth, you have my support. ( I've only noticed really nice and helpful people on the Brug forum)

Sorry to say old man frost has eaten about 50 of my 70 little Brugs, but Spring is coming, isn't it ? Guess I should quit trying to grow a sub-zero model. lol

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL @ Gary too funny!

I'm sorry to hear Dave has to do what he does. I appreciate it. It's upsetting when things get ugly here. I've found myself thinking, as I'm diggin a new flowerbed.. Why can't we all just get along! I have a management job.. I wish I could make it so some trouble makers could still be here, but just not start trouble! LOL

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

so sorry it got to the point of you having to do this Dave

I feel like that Persian Cat in the Kitty Litter ad with all the cats having a party and the Persian pulls his head out of a cup and says "Were'd everybody go?". Guess I am too oblivious...y'all are great folks. Sorry Dave had to pull out the brass knuckles...

I too am sorry, we are like a very large family, and even though families have problems they do not air them in public, they do it privately, and that is what this family should do.
Thanks Dave

I'm sure going to miss a bunch of folks. I was learning so much in the Brug forum. There's no place quite like our forum but I guess what we once had is gone forever.
We are like family....squabbles happen but we manage to work them out, usually. I guess I too had my head in the sand and missed all the action.
To those that are gone, I'll miss you very much,
To everyone God bless and be warm and safe, Margo

Wow, the grapevine is working today!! Read in the Pet Forum about the trouble brewing over here and just like any nosey neighbor came to see what it was all about. Just a little dissapointed, like Dave said, it's the same old, same old. I don't do Brugs, but it's pretty amazing how such a beautiful plant can rile people up so!

The potential for trouble existes on many of the Forums. You don't get more radical than animal lovers, but we've been around long enough not to get too testy about our opinions. We feel like we are guests in Dave's Garden, and try to behave out of respect for him. Also out of FEAR!!! After all, Dave is all powerful and has the awesome "banning-stick". LOL

As a personal testimonial let me say that I learned how to correctly spell Shih Tzu after receiving a warning!!! I was sooooo embarrassed.

Tir Na Nog, if you go to the Garden Talk tab at the top of this page and click on it, you will see the Plantfiles. There are lots of picture of Angel Trumpets (brugs, which is short for brugmansia) Just enter Angel Trumpet or Brugmansia and you will find the many colors and varieties. They are large, wonderful, and sometimes smell delicious.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Dave, it puzzles me too, but I noticed that there was some ruffled feathers when BGI members came to one of our round-ups. I didn't understand that; we're all gardeners. Also some of the BGI members were also DG members. Just don't let this stress you out, and go ahead and ban the same ole trouble-makers and be done with it.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

I am truly sorry that it has come to this and you've had to deal with it, Dave.

Thanks for all your condolences. The real people to feel sorry for, though, are the ones embroiled in a lifelong feud. Those are the ones who need our pity. (And I say this with true feelings of sadness and disappointment for them).

I think this is a Day Of Shame Paul H

Myrtle Beach, SC

I say let anyone not guilty of being a PITF (pain in the fanny) at some point in their lives throw the first stone. It happens....to all of us. Emotions rise up...we feel the need to be heard and we get a bit overzealous. Sometimes we just need to cool our jets for a minute. I think it happened here. I hate the loss of some wonderful contributors and very generous, sharing folks. It's a true shame, but life will go on.
God bless, Margo

All I really know is that i ordered brusgmania from a vendor for the first time......it is discouraging to read some of these posts...............just want to get information on growing them....

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

i seen nothing going on as my comp is down so have lap to use till see if can get it fixed..so sorry was a difference of opinion here .. brugs are wonderful i'm after 3 yrs. still trying to get just one to bloom..may everyone be kind to one another.

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Very well said Margo!

There are many people that belong to both Brugmansia groups and get along fine. There are just a few people that have problems with each other but I don't think that is a problem of either group as a whole.

OH...I'm a bit miffed...I posted to this thread.. and it didn't show up...that was 3 hours ago... guess this is how it would be for someone expelled. they would just never see the post... I'm sending it again.. just to assure myself that Yahoo or somewhere before the site lost or is still processing it.. here's hoping...

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

LOL Gordon did you think you had been banned? Obviously not. You have a clear conscience or you would not have tried it again!!

Jeanette

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

If Dave really wanted the trouble to stop he'd lock this thread so no one else could post or reply to it as there is if you read between the lines still quite a bit of "POT STIRING" going on.

The majority of people who visit the brug forum now, have never seen me post here and dont know who I am. The older memebers know me. I left quite some time ago simply because of all the B.S. that goes on within this forum. My personal opinion is that it should have been closed permanently at least 2 years ago.

I have personally witnessed and been the target of some very personal and viscious attacks on this forum that should have never been allowed to take place.

I at one time was accused by some on here of purposely spreading the brug disease known as SB or stanglebrand. Well the year that happened was my first year of ever growing brugs and all the cuttings I received that year that were supposedly afftecd came from the people who were doing the accusing.

Some of my friends i'm sorry to say have ended up on the banned list and it will be very intersesting to see if THEE real trouble make (no S on the end) shows their face back here or not.

In all fairness I think a list should be made available to everyone with the list of banned names on it. Then a poll should be taken and everyone who frequents the brug forum should be allowed to vote as to who they think the real trouble makers are.

I dont post on this forum anymore because I have all but eradicated all remaining brugs that I grew from my yard. I've not much desire to grow anything that seems to bring out the evil in people like brugmansias seem to do.

All it takes is for someone on this forum to say something that another doesnt like and then the attacks begin and for the most part by people who dont even know each other from Adams house cat.

There is a real war going on in the world right now (one that i'm not in favor of). I say for those on h ere who wish to fight ,get yourself a gun and catch the next plane out to Iraq.

Now that i've jumped on the wagon and put my two cents in where it didnt belong,if the moderators of this site wish to ban me from posting anywhere I say go for it but as long as this forum remains open there will always be problems. Yeah it might staty cool for a few days but it doesnt stay that way for long and Dave of all people should know that.
