Okay all who has extras and want to list them to share with the rest of the members, you may do so now, be sure if you list and someone wants them to put there member number on it, so I can make sure it goes into the right envelope... also Please be sure your member number is on the bubble envelope you send in the lower left hand corner...

Diana, the extras I mentioned are extra seeds you may have that you don't want or need, and want to offer to our members here only...

Ok joy, I am just tickled pink, now let the real fun BEGIN rofl

Connie

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Do we put our names on the individual packets for the swap? Is the seed for the swap supposed to be 20 different kinds, or the same? If different kinds, can some be the same? Now I am trying to over think, I know. I just want to do this right.
I went to Target today and shopped around for things to decorate the packets with and the small gift to enclose. I kept walking around the same area on and off as I would think of something else to get. I probably had security cameras following me wondering what I was up to. LOL
Now I am set and just have to choose the seeds and design the packets.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

The seeds can be all one kind if that's what you have to share, or you can send 4 packs each of 5 different types or 20 different packs, doesn't make a bit of difference=) Since only one of your packets is going to each person, it works out just fine. It helps if you put your name on the packet somewhere so if there are questions, you know who sent what. When I get things I can't grow here due to space or climate, I just save it and regift during another swap or see if anyone in the seed trading forum is interested in it.

The extras part is just for fun and not at all required. We each list what we have "extra" after we've got our swap packs set aside. Then the feeding frenzy begins and you just dmail or post quickly requesting what you'd like from the members who have listed their extras. When you are ready to pack up and send your envelope to Connie just be sure to mark any extras that you send with the members name and their swap number (first thread) on the packet so they get to who they are intended for. Even if you don't have any extras to offer this time, don't be shy to request something you might be interested in. It's just all good fun=D

gotcha!

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks Donna couldn't have said it that good myself ;o)

Only thing... Each member is to send 20 packs / not 21 lol

I know there are 21 members - but remember each of us are making 20 packs to go to each other person, eleminating yourself from your 20 packs, That way you don't get your own back...
Example:
Look at the member list - and remove your name, how many members are left? 20 *grinning*
So you are making every member but yourself a pack...
I hope that explained it so you all understand it...

Math was always my best subject - but explaining things wasn't roflmbo

Connie

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

Windy, thanks for asking all the questions about the extras that I was thinking about asking, and dmac thanks for all the good info. Now I just have to get some time to get figured out what is extra...

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

rofl lizren... you haven't seen nothin yet... The real fun is just about to begin :o)

It can get crazy, but boy oh boy is it fun...

Connie

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

Get the 20 thing now Connie=) I edited my post earlier so the number thing is correct. I knew someone would save me if I goofed up:LOL:

Donna

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Ok, while making up the packets to send last night I ran into a problem with the instructions about marking the packets.

This is the part that made me confused.
"just be sure to mark any extras that you send with the members name and their swap number (first thread) on the packet so they get to who they are intended for"

Having run several of these type swaps in the past I know how the packets can get scattered into piles to sort. When you put your name and member number on the pkt. add the word FROM before your name,
and the word TO before your extras to a certain participant requesting them.

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I don't really have time to go thru my extras but if everyone would post their wants I could check and see what I have, I've been going thru my seeds and just can't make up my mind what I'm sowing this year, I have several boxes of seed I'm still sorting thru! the way it looks I'll be sorting until spring lol Can we list them both ways? A list of extras and a list of our wants?

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Just got home from Church, when we left this morning, it was minus 5 degrees, on the way home it was zero... Brrrrrrrr it is nasty cold out there... We all agreed not to have services tonight, so I am staying in and staying (well trying to) warm...

Okay you all, I know the last time we listed wants a few of us went way way over board *cough cough* blushing here lol... Namely me :( Is everyone okay with listing wants???? If so PLEASE keep it to no more than 10

Name them like this:

Want List
1.
2.

Extra List
1.
2.

I don't mind, but it's up to all of you too :o)

Connie

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

lol Thanks Connie!
Lea

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Well Ladies, I got all mine done and ready :o) Now I can concentrate on getting the rest of my winter sowing done... If you live in the area where this cold is going thru, I hope you all are staying warm... It has been sooo bitter cold here in lower Michigan, and even worse up north...
Brrrr wind chill right now is minus 6 and going to drop to between 10 to 20 below...

How are you ALL doing???

Can you all post replies please on how you all are doing? ;o)
Like to hear from ya all...

Connie

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

Doing good! The temp has dropped to a more winterlike 12-16 at night and around 40 during the day. No snow or ice to speak of but definitely cold:LOL:

Seedwise I'm getting things together. Of course, I feel like I have TONS of time and then all of a sudden it will be gone and I'll be scurrying:LOL: I got to work and the seeds I ordered from Park Seeds had arrived so that was a great way to start my week. I'll be working on third shift all next week because 6 months after our big store remodel, my whole department is going to be completely rearranged. Nothing is staying where it is, so keep my sanity in your thoughts because if you've ever been to the Sporting Goods dept in a WalMart, just imagine moving everything in the area to new homes (fishing hooks, lures, camping, boating, baseball, golf, ammo etc) Every single category of stuff has to be relocated, it's crazy!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

It Looks Like I Am Lucky #7 On The List!! Well my packs are ready to go except for the decorating.Need to wait til after valentines day is over before St Pats stuff is in our stores.I keep running back and checking to see if they are in yet anyway! LOL I have a few wants in the way of seeds but I also have a few haves.Gotta go look see what I need and have so I can get them listed for you all.Hmmmm Hope that makes sense?

Oh the weather here has been COLD too! Brrrrr!! Come on Spring!! : )

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Donna, I use to work at our WalMarts when they first built it. I worked in infants, then went to Automotive... Wish I would had stayed. but oh well... I was there about a year and a half, then quit... Won't go into all of the why's... Just wish I would have stayed a little longer...

I am going to go lay down a bit, my knees are killing me... be back in a bit, b4 I go down for the night :o)

Connie

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Our Dollar General had a sale of 90% off all Christmas items. I found some green stuff there to decorate my packages.
I have all my packets filled and decorated and in an envelope ready to get in the mail. I just couldn't bring myself to go out today and go to the post office to mail it. Maybe tomorrow, but there is still a lot of time left.
I am thinking of planning containers for this growing season and placing my plans in separate envelopes with the seeds I will use. It may take a bit more potting soil, but I know I can start the seeds earlier that way and bring the containers in if the weather gets cold after they are all planted. I am just getting so antsy to get started.
I have been sorting my seeds and seeing what I have to work with. I was up until 11:30 and then had to pack them all away to start when I would have more time. Still looking for a few things that I misplaced, but I am sure they will turn up.

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Don't know if you all are fimiliar with co-ops but someone is trying to get the messenger one going again. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/690606/ Thats if you all are interested...

Well peeps, I am going to bed...

Connie

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks Connie:) I think I bought too much messenger last season so I've still got plenty left. I would probably like to pick up another "puffer" for seed treatment though.
Hope you get well rested:)

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Good morning to all ~
Happy to report that we had our first 70 degree day yesterday, another one on the way today which makes me miss a LOT of good stuff on the threads on DG. Much too pretty to be in the house though...............LOL! I have been tidying up my flowerbeds, working in the greenhouse and getting all of my pots and containers ready for their new plants soon! :-) I can't wait for Spring.
My seed packets are all St. Paddy'd up and ready to roll.............still waiting on our WM to put out the green goods, so that I can add my gift to the package and I'll be good to go!
You all have a fabulous day and I'll do my best to send my warm weather your direction! It makes me cold thinking about the temps you ladies are having! I'm so sorry! :(
ttfn,
Belinda

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Pamsue, I posted in the top post on the original thread that ppl could list their extras, after they got the pks done, then someone wanted to list wants, so I left it up to all the members... they can do it how ever they want to lol..

I don't have time to go thru all these seeds to list the extras I have... This darn flu bug has really grabbed a hold and won't let go. grrrrr

Also giving Dori a hand in her coop... Don't think I will EVER a tempt one of those rofl help out yes, do one, NO WAY

Belinda, I am just glad the weather is so nice for you, after being laid up as long as you were... You deserve it... :o) Wour warm weather will come... IT WILL honest lol It has been quite a few years since we have had these freezing temps... One year it was so bad here, they were telling ppl to stay in side and off the streets... One of my neighbors back then (moved away now) had to take one of her little ones to the er and I went with her, and it was like a ghost town everywhere... I was just thankful her car didn't break down on the way back home.... That is the worse freezing cold we have had so far. But this is awfully close to it..

Well I am getting off for the night... gonna curl up on the couch and watch the boob tube for a bit...

nite, Connie

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Susan, what's the lowdown on your visit to the surgeon? I hope all is well.

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I lived in Grand Forks North Dakota for four years in the 1980"s Can't say I miss the weather, but I do miss the State all the same for other reasons. We had one blizzard and as luck would have it, I got stranded at work, my husband had to stay on duty as an Air Force Policeman and my teenaged son got stranded at his friend's house. Luckily everyone was safe , as the weather turned quickly from 35 above zero to 35 below in a matter of hours that day. That was the coldest zone I have ever lived in.

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

It was nice and toasty in my part of Alabama today -- topped out around 68, which is the warmest it has been in quite some time. Nice weather to have for a friend visiting from Colorado. I sure get spring fever when it gets warm like that. I'm still working on sorting seeds, putting together packs, and getting where I'll be able to post extras... I hope I have some. I have wintersown almost 80 containers (flowers and veggies) and I have more I'd like to do, but then I start thinking about planting them out... ;-) Stay warm you guys to the north! Elizabeth

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hiya,
Well I go for pre-op today and have surgery on Monday... It should be day stay but he is not sure, will know after he gets in.. :-( I only stay for 24 hours for I dont do hospitals well and you get more sick from there then home...soooooooo....
Yes it is a hernia and not my first, this one is in a diffrent place then first one.. Way to many surgeries to post here that I have had to have in the past from around 1998 or 1999 until now.. just to much ... Some days I just want to crawl into a space and not come out.....LOL but then I say there are worse off then you so shut up and get up... so I do...
Hart thank you so much for asking it means allot to me... Hey I am still coming to your get together ...LOL I told you I would not let this interfear with that..LOLOLOLOLOL.....
Ok have to go to pre-op now and will chat later...
Hugs,
Susan

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Susan, you're in my prayers. If you ever feel like crawling into a space, just head over here or to Mid Atlantic Gardening. We're pretty darned good cheerer uppers if I do say so myself. :>)

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

you sure are hart :o)

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

will be praying for you, good luck and god bless

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

k I received one envelope so far,

I need you all to put your number on the out side of the BE in the lower left hand corner...

Also got a question, are you all just sending 1 gift? or are you buying or making and sending 20?

Please make sure the BE you send is going to be big enough for the seeds you will be receiving back...

And PLEASE don't put your stamps on the BE incase I have to send you a bigger one :o)

I think thats it for now.

Connie

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Sorry I put the stamps on the BE but it is a big one. I only sent one gift, not 20! I do hope you didn't expect 20, I couldn't afford to do that with one costing nearly $2.00!

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Windy don't worry about it... if I need to use a bigger envie thats ok... Just depends on the pks everyone sends in and size of gifts lol

I just need to know what everyone was thinking I meant,

I made 20 gifts, but I would have done that reguardless...

You can get packages of things like pencils, erasers etc... or make gifts, all for around 1.00 at the craft stores or dollar stores...

Please - Just let me know what everyone is doing,

Connie

Jerome, MI(Zone 5b)

I am making..20 packages..of the seeds...and one..gift wrapped..I hope that is ok...

Smiles...Diana...# 21...hehehe...

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Okay, I'm thoroughly confused. It was my understanding that we were to send the seeds and "a" gift, not 20. I got a couple of things but assumed they would be for one person. I sure don't have the money to buy 20 gifts, even at the dollar store.

I didn't worry about getting St. Patrick's things. What I got was a lot cuter than a pack of leprechaun stickers so there. LOL
