A Really Great Chocolate Chip Cookie

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I made these a few months ago and loved them, but went on to try some other recipes on the recipe site I use but these have been the best I've tried so I thought I'd share.

These are from Kikimony at www.recipezaar.com

Chocolate Chip Cookies from My Childhood "Recipe #54615"

4-6 dozen

2/3 c shortening
2/3 c butter, softened
1 c sugar
1 c firmly packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 (12 oz) bag chocolate chips
3/4 c chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts or macadamia) optional
3 c all purpose flour (bleached or unbleached) if you use self rising omit the baking soda and salt

Preheat oven to 375. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Mix shortening, butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla until creamed.

Mix baking soda, salt and flour together and add 1/3rd at a time to creamed mixture.

Using a wooden spoon fold in chips and nuts until distributed evenly throughout the dough.

Drop dough onto cookie sheets in whatever size you prefer. I got 4 dozen using a teaspoon sized ball.

Bake 8-10 min or golden brown.

Remove let cook a minute or two on the pan then remove to cool on a cookie rack.

Store in an airtight container.

These were really great tasting, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and had a great buttery flavor. I used toasted pecans and Ghiradelli Double Chocolate chips (dark chocolate). I plan to try white chocolate chips with either hazelnuts or macadamias soon.
