It does sort of look like Rebel's Splatter Kake. The second one looks like a NOID I bought but my leaves are a lighter green. Nice variety, our stores don't have that kind of variety.

Lindenhurst, NY

those are really pretty, and 2.49 ea? Wow, what a bargain. My favorite is the 1st one.

(Zone 1)

Looks like it Sported to a wonderful Chimira Foliage. If so to keep this truefoliage you will have to progate by sucker or bloom stalk.
Lali had a stunning one and by leaf total green .
All Rob's Foliage Chimeria African violet plants And Little Stinker all of them were from solid green plants that Sported .
They are very special variegated plants ! Please keep us up-dated on this one and porgate by sucker or blook stalk baby !
Your first one if Optimara most likey one of their fantasy plants I just love it when plants do this all different color flowers !
Beautiful ! Did they have Optimara tags on them ?

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Gingerrose the variegated plant you have is sporting to a Chimeria foliage plant whcih means if you put a leaf down it will grow a baby all green , not variegated like Mom.
To keep this variegation in this plant porgate it by sucker,or bloom stalk.
When your plant flowers sometimes they will grow leaves on them after the flower dies cut just the flower off and let the leaves grow larger then pot them in small cup they will grow a plant true to Mom on most cases. Sometime on flower stalk a little baby will grow, looking just like a crown this is called a bloom stalk basket, Do same method then plant like a sucker .
I wrote a thread on this with step by step pictures see if I can fine it.

WooWee when I bought these plants at lowes yesterday they must of just got them in and some one came by and watered them because when I took the foil paper off they were socking wet I put them on my light shelf and when I got up this morning my favorite one was all wilted (no1)..I had some soilless mix ready and hurryed up to repot it
its looking some what better this afternoon, but of course not as beautiful as yesterday..sure hope it doesnt go to violet heaven on me
Allison : sure glad you tole me it was the varigated one you were talking about ..I had my mine on no 1 plant and was really diappointed I couldnt put a leaf down and make more beauties like it ..any suggestons on how to care for my sick over watered baby???Ive already repoted her in ..one pt.promix-1 pt. vemiculite-1 pt.perlite..I didnt want to break any roots off so i worked the dirt around the roots out as best I could but some stayed she was soaking wet..it seemed like the new mix was taking up some of the water and shes looking better ,but all the flowers are folded under..

Gingerose, I was so envious when I saw your post yesterday that I ran to Lowes today..........mine were sitting in at least an inch of water!!! Mine say they were grown at Aldershot in Mesilla Park, NM...that is a part of Las Cruces, NM and I know of Aldershot. (Las Cruces has more sunny days out of the year than any other place in the US)...
I promise you that in the next two weeks I will learn how to put the macro lense on...this is the best I can do with the camera I have...can't get close enough. My favorite one is the dark pink with purple spots if you can see in these pics. I am going to wait and see what someone tells you to do with these soaking wet plants. I bought 4" ceramic pots but these are in tiny 3" pots now.
thanks for sharing with us where you got yours...

jannich, you have taught me a wonderful lesson...I put 4 layers of paper towels under the violets in permanest trays...after 30 minutes, I went back and I could squeeze water of the paper towels, sooooooooooooo I did the same thing again...will be interesting to see just how much moisture is in those little pots...thanks

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Hi Bettygail nice to see you ! Love your new plants !
A friend visiting the other day said they were at Lowes and tryas full of AV's were sitting in cold water right up high drowing :(( She said they dumped the water out. So said.
I sent you Dmail Gingerose. Hope your babies do well.
PLants bought from stores and others nurseries are grown under contraol enviromants and soil is heavy. So you will want to pot them, groom, I neem oil mine from top to bottm folaige , I change soil, sometimes just take the cowns and start of with new soil-less mix and bleached pots . They root so fast !
Happy Growing !

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Mine look so healthy now under the gro lights....must have soaked at least 1/2 cup of water from each one....what do you mean by putting oil on the foliage, Allison?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Hey, you girls did great at Lows!! I'll have to check em out before they drown. They probably have em for Val. Day comin up.

Allison, what is Chimeria foilage?

Debbie

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

BettyGail Sorry I meant Neem Oil. I like to use it warm a couple drops of dish soap like ivory in it shake it up I spray my whole new plant and soil to help to prevent pest.
Let's see if I can do this correct
[ ( What's a chimera? According to Webster's dictionary, a "chimera" is a "living structure or organism in which the tissues are of varied genetic origin".
It's a rare Sport/Mutant foliage that Sports to a stunning variegation which is stable to heat and old age and can only be progated by sucker or bloom stalk.
If progated by leaf the plant will return to solid green.
http://www.robsviolet.com/miniature_chimeras.htm
Chimeria foliage plants are a rare variegation it has Sported from it's Mom a Muntant.
Have you ever seen Little Stinker on Ebay a rare Chimiera Foliage plant but not Chimiera flowers.
Rob has some like
Rob's Lucky Charm. A must have for the serious collector. Bouquet of lots of deep orchid-mauve sdbl. pansies atop very rare, euonymous-like green and gold variegation impervious to heat or age. Miniature #9293 $20.00
and
Rob's Lucky Penny. Very rare, one-of-a-kind variegated foliage! Sdbl. white pansies with deep blue eye. Tiny, pointed foliage with very unusual variegation--like leaves of euonymus, with very broad, irregular, white margin, totally insensitive to heat or age! Miniature. #8611 $25.00 Out of stock until mid February.
Their very rare. These plants of Rob's are Sports from Solid green plants . They will also stay variegated in hot weather and when they get old.
But they can only be progated by sucker or bloom stalk .
This is never 100 percent true nothing in life is.
I have a large Little Stinker Sport that was a sucker attached to Mom closer than any sucker could be and is solid dark green no vaviegation.
This type of foliage is stunning and rare .
All Chimerias are Sports. I have seen it in Fantasy bloomers a lot but also in solid bloomers.
But the foliage Chimerias are even more rare, not seen often.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Thanks Allison, found it and understand now and I see it in Ginger's plant. Now, should she wanna try to get babies like the one leaf, would she probagate with suckers from the plant? Would it be possible for one of the suckers to start out with chimeria leaves before it's even taken from the mom plant?

Debbie

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Gee, Allison, thanks for the information from Rob's....I will call them today!!!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes it is possible she could get a whole variegated plant and the sucker would look like this when with Mom . There is not a chance of it changing after , it ill either look like or not.
I have a Little Stinker Chimera foliage plant that sported back hooked to Mom solid green :((
Little Stinker's were going $25.00 and way up on Ebay while back not sure how much they sell for now ?
You don't see them very often .

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Allison, forget my dmail....I can't find the number of Rob's to call and change my order to some of the 'fancier ones'....thanks....

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Sorry I could not be on computer then. I just sent you info per Dmail :)) They except calls between 12 PM and 5 PM :))
