Moodene What type of incubator are you using? I never seem to have any luck with mine!

I have one of those Hova foam bator..it has a fan and egg turner...Those chicks are inside a rubbermaid tub for now until they go into a holding pen which is a old port a crib from my baby days...lol...will post that later on too...In the last 2 days of incubating..I put the eggs inside this tub to finish hatching...Temps were 98 degrees with 60% humidity-notice the water jar in upper right hand corner...

MOodene, how did you ever sort them? Are you one of those mystical chicken-sexer types? I wish I knew how to sex chicks effectively. It would make me more courageous about hatching my own chicks.

I can sex them by wing feathers or vent sex them..lol..not hard if ya know what to look for..lol....got more in the bator that are due to hatch next week..i got the tub all cleaned out and ready for the next batch..

That is just so exciting.

and every time I say chicken sexer, I giggle. Although, I do know it is quite serious business, and I am, in fact, mad with jealousy.

Do you have any tips for us? I don't know about sexing them by wing feathers. I'd heard about the vent way.

please put up more baby pix when you get more babies! good luck!

Been lurking around for a while, researching (I want chickens) and someone posted long ago in the Farm forum that you could put a magnet on a string and hold it over an egg. If it did not move it was not going to hatch, if it moved in a straight line it would be male or if it went in a circle it would be a female. This reminds me of the wedding ring over a pregant womans stomache - is there any truth to this or just one of those...

That is SO egg-citing, moodene! I am just now finishing up my incubator & have been searching on eBay for some good eggs to hatch..........can't wait, I must say. Thanks for sharing your pics and story with us - - - us chick lovers really enjoy it! :-)

I also search on Eggbid.com for my eggs...I recycle anything I can find to put in good use...lol...I have done this before and it works when I get football shaped eggs-broosters and oval or round egg -girl chicks..the upper pics has 10 football eggs in it..and I got 10 roosters....lol

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

What breed are they? I just love cute fuzzies! They're such an addiction, all that fluff flying and the peeping and all...

I hatched out so many last year, I have been forbidden to hatch out any more by my hubby. Little does he know I'll probaby be hatching out more BLRWs and maybe some blue cochins!
