I found this at Walmart the other day. They only had one of them, among about fifty plants. Looks like they had just gotten a new shipment in. I love variegated anything, so of course, for $2.47, that baby was coming home with me. :-)

And I'm thrilled, because one of the other ones I bought a few months ago that was in bloom then, is now getting ready to bloom again! It's my first bloom from an AV after they were done blooming the blooms they had when I bought them. So I guess they're happy! :-)
Let's see...I have a total of five AVs now. Not addicted, but I do love them!
Thats Great.I have a hard time getting my noids back in bloom.Sounds like you definitely have the right touch. I see an entire roomfull of av's in your future. LOLThey are a wonderful addiction ! : )
Kbaumlle: What a beauty! I have a lot of AV's I've gotten at Wal-Mart over the years .... none have names, but I love them just the same. I have NEVER found one at our Wal-Marts with the variegated foliage .... Love It!
You need to take a photo of your 5 babies and post it so we all can enjoy them! You are getting hooked, I can see! And all the folks here sure are enabler's! :) I began with about 8-10 AV's when I joined DG in October ... after seeing all the beautiful photo's of other people's AV's, I knew I was hooked! I bought 4 new little babies from The Violet Barn .... so now I finally have a couple with names!
kbaumle your new plant is so pretty ! Nice to find a variegated plant ! Is it an Optimara Plant ? Most likly if it is from their Variegated series.

I'm missing it ? Does the flower have a Picotee / or Geneva edge?

Geneva edge is when flower is solid color and has white edge love them !

I really like the varigated plants also. It seems to give the plants more depth.
Oh well, see, I learned something! I have always called anything that had an edge of a different color picotee. So now I know. For this, it's Geneva! Thank you for the clarification!
I check our Walmart garden section about once a week, because my husband has to get an allergy injection every week and we stop at Walmart for groceries right after. That usually means I stay pretty current on what is new there before it gets picked over, or HORRORS - doesn't get taken care of and dies.
Well an Av flower that is Solid color with white edge is known as a Geneva flower ! A flower with colorful edge is known as Picotee edge

I always inspect anything I get from stores like Walmart VERY closely when I buy them and again when I bring them home. Most things I also spray with Safer's.
That's great as a few people have been getting mites and these can notbe see without 3X power and sometimes not fount until damage is too severe and some lose their whole collection. many a times people have healthy looking blooming plants with mites, soil mealies, Thrips and more that's why Isolated plants for a good 3 months is reccomended :))
