Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Like this?? :-)

This one's actually a Rook (Corvus frugilegus) - a species of crow that isn't called a crow in its English name

Portland, OR(Zone 8a)

Resin : Wow !! gorgeous close-up. Of course I LOVE IT !! :)

I remember seeing those back in Poland and also hooded crows and some other corvids, which we don`t have here in America.
Back then I was not into the birds, altho I always feed them, tho never did I spend time on thinking about their behavior, You know, what and why they do and stuff.
Now I m fascinated with the behavioral site of the birds. Not that, I have any science back-round. Specially corvids are my interest..so of course I love the pics...
Bring it on...LOL :)

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Resin: Well I would have guessed some kind of sandpiper on the first one but would've never gotten anyfurther. When I'm over at the beach, I can watch one for an hour, field guide in hand, and still not decide just which sandpiper it is! :) (Distant one looked like a puffin. Ha! Ducks are not my forte. ;> )
Thanks for posting them.

While I do think identifying shore birds can be intimidating, I learn a lot trying!

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

The most important characters to note here are (1) the very dark grey colour, compared to other Calidris species (Dunlin, Sanderling, etc), and the yellow legs (Dunlin and Sanderling both have black legs). Also their choice of a rocky shoreline (though obviously this is a lot less reliable, as Dunlin and Sanderling will use rocks for roosting on at high tide).
