male fern

I have a male fern that needs to go in the ground. I have a good shady spot for it, but I am concerned that it might spread and mess up my brick patio. If it's just the clump getting bigger, that's not a problem, but I know some ferns have really strong roots and can send up another plant further away. I can plant it as much as 4 feet from the patio bricks.
