I spilled an entire box of Quaker's Oatmeal, the real thing, not flavored or sugared etc. Rather than throw it away, I was hoping I could leave it out for the birds. Mostly we have here sparrows and mourning doves, and an occasional cardinal (after all it is the state bird!).
Will they eat it and will they like it???
Will birds eat oatmeal?
I had a suet receipe once that included it, so I am sure they wouldn't let it go to waste. if you google for suet receipes, you may find one that has it included.
Yes, no problem

Here is a few that have oatmeal, page down. http://www.birdnature.com/suet.html#rec1
Just a thought. Logic tells me a bird should not eat too much oatmeal in one sitting for fear of it absorbing the bird's fluids, swelling and clogging the digestive tract. But, then I have no education on their physiology. I would put it out in quantity.

That's an urban legend, and totally untrue. Birds have been eating dry seeds for millions of years with no problems at all. They just drink some water to soak the food in.

I threw a handful of the oatmeal on top of the snow, we'll see what happens today.
I am sure it will be a welcome site when everything else is covered.
I mixed it with bird seed. I also have a feeder.

Guess that is why they say 'eat like a bird'....they can't fill up, have to leave room for expansion! LOL!
Yeah, I need a nap. ;-)
In winter I mix peanut butter, bird seed and quick oats together and put it out for the birds....they LOVE it. In fact this afternoon I was putting some on a feeder outside my kitchen window and in his excitement a yellow rumped warbler landed on my hand! not sure which one of us was more surprised! LOL
wow what a treat Ginger for you lol
:-)))) The "butter butts" are soooo spoiled. If I'm in the screenroom and there is no mix on the PB feeders they look in my direction as if to say "Hey lady...your beer ain't going nowhere..now FEED us!!" and I always do even if I have to make more. Yup..that's me...Ginger_H the well trained.
LOL, I can't stand it when they give you those looks!
